DECATUR CLUB MEETS AT C.L. OF C. HALL The members of the Decatur Home Demonstration club met at the C.L. of C. hall for their May meeting with Mrs. Joe Hunter presiding. ' i [ After the club creed and pledge to the flag had been given, Miss Lois Folk presented the lesson on mix and make. To close her topic, she recited a poem. Using the heart as her subject. Miss Ivy Gilpin presented the health and safety lesson. She explained that people should rest often during the day so as not to overtax the heart. The Adams County Home Demonstration chorus wiH charter a bus to travel to. Purdue to sing June 9. Those wishing to attend should contact Mrs. William Neadsein and be prepared to pay $3.50 for the round trip ticket. After the meeting was closed with the repeating of the club collect, a lunch was served by the Mesdames Clarence Drake, Frank Bohnke, Howard Eley, and Cecil Gause. Miss Folk and Mrs. Robert Drake were guests for the meeting and the door prize was awarded to Mrs. Frank Crist. MAY BREAKFAST IS HELD TUESDAY MORNING Tuesday morning, members of the Decatur Garden club met with Mrs. Fred McConnell for their annual May breakfast. Mrs. Wesley Lehman and Mrs. Harve Koos were the assisting hostesses. Twenty two members and four guests were served from tables decorated with spring flowers. Mrs. Don McLean, president, had charge of the business meeting, during which plans were made for the club to travel to Fort Wayne June 16 for a luncheon and then tour the Fort Wayne rose Gardens. After Mrs. Lehman had presented a review of the book, “Lincoln and His Son,” Mrs. Fred Hancher was awarded the door prize. MRS. MABEL MARSHALL IS RECENT HOSTESS Mrs. Clyde Harris and Miss Laura Stanley assisted Mrs. Mabel Marshall when she entertained members of the Wesleyan Service Guild of the First Methodist church. Mrs. Walter Krick conducted the business meeting and gave the lesson, after which Mrs.. George Helm led the devotions. , Near the end of the meeting, a handkerchief shower was given for Mrs. George Brayton, who is leaving for an European tour.

CHURCH MOTHER’S CLUB OBSERVES 20TH ANNIVERSARY Members of Church Mothers Study club met Tuesday at the First Baptist church in observance of the club’s 20th anniversary. Mrs. Delmar Van Horn presented devotions from the book of Exodus following the club song. Mrs. William Journay, president, presided over the business meeting, during which former presidents were honored. Each was presented with a pink carnation corsage.'Mrs. Lowell Smith highlighted some of the club's activities and told of its beginning as a W.P.A. project Throughout the years it has grown and now every mother of any religious denomination is welcome to join the club. Program chairman, Mrs. Hubert Zerkel, Jr., introduced Mrs. Norman Koons, who sang “A Tribute to Mothers." Cindy, Julie and Alan Zerkel. Helen Walters and Vicki Lehman ail took part in the program. Ari organ and piano duet was given by Mrs. Stuqrt Brightwell and Mrs. Zerkel. Potted plants were awarded to Mrs. Lowell Noll for being the mother with the largest family and to Mrs. Koons as the wungest mother present. A candle light installation was conducted by Mrs. Journey for the new officers, followed by the club prayer which closed the meeting. Butterfly hanky favors were given to each guest as she entered the social rooms, which were decorated in the club colors of pink and blue. Hstesses for the evening were: Mrs. Arthur Beeler, Mrs. Stan Kling, Mrs. Richard McMahan, Ms. Myles Parrish and Mrs. Journay. PRAYER OPENS RECENT W.S.C.B. MEETING A payer offered by Mrs. George Foor opened the Tuesday afternoon meeting of members of the Pleasant Mills Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service. Mrs. Harlen Jones served as hostess for the meeting. Mrs. Donald Everett gave the devotions and lesson on “The World In Christ We Bring.” Eleven members answered roll call and after the business meeting, refreshments were served by Mrs. Jones and Mrs. George Foor. The Kirkland Ladies mother and daughter banquet will be held Tuesday evening at 6:30 o’clock j at.the “Family Inp”. Mrs. Albert Beineke, Mrs. Roy Heller, Mrs. Ivan. Heare, and Mrs. Theodore Heller are to be contacted no later than Monday for reservations.

Wagoner, according to an announcement made by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene L. John- ' son of route 4, Bluffton. Wagoner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Lane Wagoner of 121 River View Avenue, Elkhart. Miss Johnson is a 1957 graduate of Lancaster township high school and is now a senior student of X-ray technology at the Elkhart general hospital. The future bridegroom has attended Indiana University and is. now a student at Manchester College.
DRAMATIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS PLAY MONDAY Members of the Dramatic department of Women’s club presented the program at the final meeting of the general club’s year, held Monday evening at the Youth arid Community center. Under the abel direction of Reid Erekson, eight members of that department presented a delightful comedy in one get, entitled “The Fast Finish.” Mrs. Erekson introduced the program. The cast ,in order of their appearance, were Mrs. Roy Kalver, who played Mrs. Rushmore, dignified principal of Mt. Trevor school for young ladies (in whose office, incidentally, the entire play takes place); Mrs. James Allen, enacting the part of the school's "brpezy” young gym teacher; Mrs. John Brecht, who kept the audience happily amused with her antics as Fanny Hawley, Mt. Trevor’s problem student, and Mrs. James Newton, playing the part of the school’s art instructor, Kitty Prudoim. Also in the play were Mrs. Gerald Durkin as very dignified and aloof Mrs. Dunsmore Smith, chairman of the board; Mrs. Paul Wolf, playing Edella Princey, a timid older teacher until she is cured of her fear of other people; Mrs. Ronald Parrish, who as Miss Elsie Vogle was secretary to the principal, and Mrs. Ross Brian, capably assuming the role of Ann Andright, the pretty young teacher at Mt. Trevor. Prior to the production of the play, Mrs. R. C. Hersh, general club president, opened the meeting by leading the group in repeating the opening verse. Mrs. Leo Curtin presented the minutes of the previous meeting, followed by a financial report by treasurer Mrs. Thomas Buuck. Mrs. Raymond Eichenauer gave a report citing the women of the organization who had attained 100% in attendance for the past year, after which Mrs. Hersh gave a detailed report of the state federation convention held at French Lick last month. Among the awards which were awarded to her for the local club were a 50year bookmark for club’s fifty years or older; a ribbon for good citizenship for having achieved 100% in voting last year, and a Lincoln ribbon, as the result of the club’s having contributed to a new Lincoln memorial tri' Spencer county, commemorating Lincoln’s

Mrs. Arthur Lengerich will be hostess for members of the St. Ambrose study club Monday at 7:30 o’clock. Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock, Mrs. William Werling and Mrs. Walter Hildebrand will serve as hostess for members of the Sunny Circle Home Demonstration club who<will meet at the Preble township community building. Wednesday at 8 o’clock, members of the Bethany Circle of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church will meet in the church parlor. The Adams County Historical Society members will meet at the Decatur public library Tuesday at 8 o’clock. A May breakfast for members of Circles one and four of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church, will be held Tuesday at 9 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Adrian Baker. Mrs. Louis Drake will be hostess for members of the Live and Learn Home Demonstration club Wednesday at 1:30 o'clock. Members will: exchange flower bulbs, seeds, and house plants. JUNIOR WOMEN TO MEET MONDAY WITH MRS. KNAPE Members of the Junior Women's department of the Decatur Woman’s club are reminded of the May departmental meeting, to be held at the home of Mrs. Ned Knape, 1010 Mercer avenue, Monday evening, beginning at 7:30 o’clock. This will be the club’s annual handicraft auction meeting, and members are to bring any article of handiwork which they have made. Those who do not attend are asked to send their items with someone else, as thbse members who do not contribute some item will be fined sl. Mrs. Robert Sittier, a member of the club and a practicing dietician, will present the program, dealing with meat cookery. Serving on the committee with Mrs. Knape are Mrs. William McCblly, Mrs. Sittier and Miss Gretchen Larikenau. Jefferson Club Has Goal Os 300 Members The Adams county Jefferson club, which included more than 1 100 members in 1958, has a 1959 goal of 300 members, Roger L. Singleton, president, said this morning. Anyone interested in joining may send his .$1 membership fee with name and address to Mrs. Miriam Gay, 44 Homestead, and will be mailed a membership card. A membership committee, to make personal contact, will soon be appointed. 6 The next meeting of the Democratic organization will be June 23 at 8 p.m. at the Decatur Community Center. Weather observer Louis Landrum gave the river level at 3.17 feet. The mark has been fairly constant all week.

Miss Ruby Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Miller of • Dayton, Ohio and former Decatur residents, returned this morning from a two weeks’ stay in Hawaii to attend the commencement exercises of her niece. Miss Deanna Small. Miss Small will receive her diploma at Decatur high school this evening. William Barnes, of Geneva, was released from the Wells county hospital Wednesday following treatment.
