Resuming Study Os New Wheat Measure WASHINGTON (UPD — House farm leaders were on warning today that the administration won’t accept any new wheat bill which raises the support price. The word was given by administration * farm officials to members of the House Agriculture Committee. The group went back behind closed doors again today to draft a stopgap bill to trim wheat production. Some House members interpreted the administration stand to mean President Eisenhower might wield his veto power if Congress passed bills now being considered by the Senate and House Agriculture committees. “ These measures now are practically the same. The Senate committee late Wednesday dropped consideration of another plan and decided instead to study the House version. Hie acreage-cutting plan adopted last week by a House Agriculture subcommittee would reduce wheat acreage allotments 20 per cent for the 1960 and 1961 crops. But price supports would be boosted to 85 per cent of the “fair earning power" parity price. Support for the 1959 crop is at 75 per cent of parity. With the latest word from the administration, however, the future of these bills was in doubt. Rep. Carl Albert (D-Okla.) said Congress might try to settle for a token cut in allotments, a move to tighten enforcement of controls, and no change in the support rate. Agriculture Secretary Ezra Taft Benson still is plugging for approval of his plan for lower supports and relaxed planting controls.
