Abandoned Home Is Damaged By Vandals s Over S3OO damage was caused to an abandoned home located on ’ route one, Berne, over the week- ! end, according to the Adams coun- ‘ ty sheriff's department; , Robert Meyer, deputy sheriff, , said today that farm home owned by Karl Kauffman, of Berne, was damaged considerably over the weekend by vandals. Twenty-six window panes, installed Friday, were broken out by the vandals sometime during the same evening. Damage to the inside consisted of four gallons of paint strewn about the floors, plaster t on the walls heavily damaged, ba'ck door kicked in, a kerosene stove heavily damaged, five sacks of sand dumped, etc. The home has been abandoned ior two to three years< and re, cently Amish farmers were preparing and decorating the inside so renters could move in later this week. The farmers installed the window panes Friday, and Amish wives had worked on the inside, painting and cleaning. x The Adams county sheriff’s department stated today that the malicious trespassing incident investigation will continue until the vandals are apprehended. Charges will be filed, according to the investigating officers. A similar incident occurred nearly two years ago at the same farm home when windows were broken and heavy damage was caused to the inside. The persons involved, at that time were apprehended by the sheriff's department and were assessed the damages caused to the home. New Type Os Base Is Tried On Road A new type of base for a paved county road will be tried today in Adams county on the one-half mile stretch past Rainbow lake between Celyon and Geneva. A total of 6% tons of salt has been mixed with six inches of gravel and dirt from the berm and ditch. This was stirred into a muddy mixture, and will now be allowed to set for two weeks. At the end of this period it will be extremely hard, and will be used as a base for blacktopping. The road has been closed for two days, and Lawrence Noll, county road supervisor, advises motorists to stay off the road until it has set firmly. This will permit a better job of blacktopping later. The road passes Rainbow Lake, the artificial lake just north of Geneva. Over 2,50 v Dally Democrats are sold and delivered in Decatur each day. CALL US FOR GRAIN PRICES BEFORE SELLING.
