I The marriage of Miss Ruth Gephart to Leroy Walters was solemnized Good Friday at 7:30 o’clock in the Union Chapel Evangelical United Brethren church. The Rev. Emmett Anderson performed the 1 double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Basil J. Gephart of route 5, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Walters, also of route 5. For her wedding, Miss Gephart selected a nile green knit suit, with which she wore black accessories. A red rose corsage compie ted her attire. Mrs. Tom Gaunt, the bride’s only attendant, selected a pink knit suit with black accessories and a pink rose corsage. Tom Gaunt attended .his friend as best man. METHODIST CHURCH GROUP MEETS IN CHURCH LOUNGE The singing of hymns opened the meeting of members of the Everready Sunday school class of the Methodist church, which was held recently in the church lounge. Mrs. Melvin Baumgartner and grandson, Mike Stonestreet, were guests at the meeting. Mike entertained the group with a selection of'songs during the meeting. A business meeting was conducted by the president, after which a social hour was held by the members. Refreshments were served by Mrs. W. Guy Brown, Mrs. Virgil Krick, and Mrs. Homer Lower. KIRKLAND LADIES CLUB ENTERTAINS HUSBANDS Mejnbers of the Kirkland Ladies club entertained their husbands at a banquet held at the Dutch Mill in Blufton. The banquet was held Tuesday evening, with approximately 50 people in attendance. Spring decorations were used for the tables. Compton Rider was a guest at the meeting and he showed pictures from behind the Iron Curtain and explained each one. Mrs. John Leyae and Mrs. John Barger, accompanied by Mrs. Ella Scheryy, presented two vocal selections. Harold Barger was awarded the door prize. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Dorphus Schlickman, Mrs. Joe Zimmerman, and Mrs. Oscar Brown. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Scherry on Tuesday. —. —— REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING IS HELD BY WOMAN’S GUILD The Women’s Guild of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church met Wednesday evening for their regular monthly meeting. •The president, Mrs. Rufus Kirchhofer, conducted a short business meeting, at which time the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved followed by the treasurer’s report. given from several departmental chairman working on various projects. Rupp, who showed slides and related experiences while in Alaska doing missionary work in the schools and churches. Mrs. Miller had as her guest Mrs. Fledderjohann, of New Knoxville, Ohio, whose husband served as pastor of the Reformed church prior to his death. Refreshments were served by the hostesses: Mrs. Victor Kneuss, Mrs. Elmer Lautenschlager, Mrs. Ferd Litterer, Mrs. Ann Lehman, Mrs. Wesley Lehman, Mrs. S. E. Leonardson, Mrs. Richard Linn, and Mrs. Fred Liniger. DEMONSTRATION CLUB HOLDS APRIL MEETING Members of the 0.N.0. Home Demonstration club held their April meeting at the home of Mrs. Willard Fawbush Wednesday evening. In the absence of the president, rMs. Lillard Fawbush, vice president, presided at the meeting. The members repeated the club creed, after which roll call was ansewered and the minutes from the previous meeting were read. The history of the song of the month was given by the song leader. A letter from the Merrier Monday club was read inviting the members to attend their May 11 meeting. Additional plans were made for the club's trip to Fort Wayne May 28, where they will attend the TV shows. Breakfast in Fort Wayne, and the Ann Colone show. Mrs, Herman Durr and Mrs. Donald Jeffrey presented the lesson on wills and deeds, followed by a cake decorating demonstration by the hostess, who decorated the cake as a birthday cake for the members observing their birthdays in April. Secret pal gifts were received by Mrs. Donald Jeffrey, Mrs. Don Haines, Mrs. Lillard Fawbush, and Mrs. Roy Bieberich. Mrs. Walter Weigman was welcomed as a new member. The May meeting will be held May 13 at the home of Mrs. Lillard Fawbush. Refreshments were served to 13 members and three guests; Mrs. Robert Bucher, Mrs. Don Burke, and Mrs. Robert Weber. SONG AND PRAYER OPEN W.M.S. MEETING RECEICTLY The Woman’s Missionary Society members of the Nuttman Avenue United Brethren church, met recently at the home of Mrs. Paul Parker. The service was opened with a song and prayer followed with a scripture reading by Mrs. Iris Harkless. The scripture reading and the lesson both pertained to the sowing of the gospel seed. A reading entitled, “‘Use What You Have,” was given by Mrs. Bill Huston. The Middle East, the study topic for the year, was used by the leader for her lesson. She showed a map with her talk on Iran. Letters from active missionaries in Africa were read, after which the business' meeting was held. Announcement was made so the annual Aulaize branch sessions which is to be held at the Decatur church April 24, 25, and 26. During the social hour, the hostess served refreshments to, those in attendance. MRS. BURT TOWNSEND IS RECENT HOSTESS Mrs. Burt Townsend entertained members of the Ladies Shakespeare club at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom Allwein, recently. Mrs. George Buckley, club president who has spent several months in Arizona, was welcomed back by the group and had charge of opening the meeting. Roll call was answered by 19 members who told of a current event. It was learned that three members had perfect attendance during the year. Miss Francis Dug- . an, Mrs. C. E. Peterson, and Mrs. Charles Teeple were cited. The program was under the charge of Mrs. Grace Allwein and she discussed contemporary American painting. Using the lives of three artists, Abraham Rattner, Stuart Davis, and Walter Quirt,, she demonstrated our world in art today. Miss Dugan announced that the closing meeting would be guest day to be held April 23 at the Evangelical and Reformed church beginning at 1 o’clock. Willshire Students Inspect Egg Tree The Easter egg tree at Decatur’s public library received the careful scrutiny of 59 first and second grade pupils from Willshire, 0., Thursday afternoon. The tree, which will be available to viewers until Saturday was aided in “growth” this year by Miss Bertha Heller, head librarian, and Mrs. Dick Heller, Sr., children’s librarian. The Willshire group, two sets of first grades and one second, was under the guidance of Mrs. der, Mrs. Clouse and Mrs. Cowan, teachers at the school. The group arrived about 1:45 p.mf and stayed about 3ft minutes. Honor Students To Be Given Awards COVINGTON, tnd. Miss Judy Pellot, friend of the bride from River Forest, 111., was the maid of honor in a full skirted gown of mint green taffeta. The skirt formed pleats at the waist line which was accented with a small bow. Matching shoes and gloves and a bow headpiece complemented her gown and she carried a bouquet' of pink and yellow tulips. Bridesmaids, Miss Lois and Miss Nancy Steury, both sisters of the bride, were attired identically to the honor attendant. Little Miss Renae Weller in a gown of green embroidered organdy, was the flower girl. The rings were carried by Guy Weller. Miss Weller is a niece of the bride and ‘the ringbearer a nephew. , Attending his friend as best man was Bill Reynolds, aad seating the guests were Robert Steury, brother of the bride, Charles Lehman, Ted Lehman, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Byron Liechty, cousin of the bridegroom. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Steury selected a green crepe print dress with black accessories and a corsage or white carnations. Thd' I bridegroom’s mother appeared in a dress of blue print crepe with black and blue accessories and a white carnation corsage. Approximately 300 guests were served at the reception held immediately following the wedding. Servers included the Misses Carol Jane Heller and Lorene Neuenschwander, and Mrs. John Speakman, Mrs. Arlen Mitchel, Mrs. Larry Gaskill, and Mrs. Robert Cable. A two piece beige wool suit with green and white accessories was worn by the bride for a wedding trip of an unannounced destination. Academy Award Telecast Monday HOLLYWOOD (UPI) — More than 100 movie stars will be squeezed into the Academy Award telecast Monday night for the biggest jamboree in filmtown history. Never before have so many stars appeared on one progtam. You name ’em, they’ll be on the two-hour show—lngrid Bergman. Clark Gable, Doris Day, Rock Hudson, Sophia Loren. Scares of stars who rarely appear on TV will be strutting their stuff in honor of Oscar night. Six masters of ceremony, Bob Hope, David Niven, Tony Randall, Mort Sahl, Sir Laurence Olivier and Jerry Lewis, are scheduled to fill the gaps between presentations. And there will be specialty acts aplenty to break up the dull doling out of statuettes. . For instance, Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas—who also teamed last year—will sing and ’ dance their way through “It’s All Right with Us.” English imports Dana Wynter, ' Joan Collins and Angela La ns bury will warble "It’s Bully Not to Be Nominated.” Rosalind Russell and Sammy Davis Jr. have brief bits, as do > Miss Bergman, Cary (Scant, William Holden and John Wayne. ■ An added fillip i$ the appearance of Eddie Fisher and EliZa- ■ beth Taylor on the same show.
