MRS. FRED CORAH IS TUESDAY HOSTESS The Xi Alpha Xi and Delta Lamba chapters of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Mrs. Fred Corah Tuesday evening. Folowing the opening ritual, the business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Glen Custer. An election of officers was held for the Xi Alpha Xi chapter and the following officers were selected. President will be Mrs. Helen Howell and vice president is Mrs. Jerome Keller. while Mrs. William Affolder has charge of the club funds. After committees were named for the founders day party, reports on the profit of the home talent show were given. The funds were turned over to Thurman Drew for the new isolette at the hospital. After the closing ritual, crazy bridge was played and prizes were won by Mrs. Clarence Ziner and Mrs. Francis Ellsworth. A luncheon was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Walter Sommer and Mrs. Art Burris.
EASTERN STAR HOLDS INSTALLATION SERVICES Mrs. Ray Collins was installed as worthy matron of the Decatur chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star at services held recently at the Masonic hall.' Her husband 9 will serve in the east with her as worthy patron. “ Mrs. Howard Morton, of Poe, I s was the installing officer. She was * assisted by Mrs. Harry Essex and e Mrs. Robert Macklin of the Decar tur chapter. Colter, associate conductress; Mrs. Elmo Stuckey, chaplain; Mrs. Clarence Snyder, marshal; and Mrs. Roland J. Miller, organist. Also installed were Mrs. Charles Houk as Adah; Mrs. Don Cochran as Ruth; Mrs. John Drake, Esther; Mrs. Merritt Alger, Martha; Mrs. John Brecht, Electa; Mrs. Fredrick Striker, warden, and Mrs. Roland J. Miller, sentinel. The chapter room was beautifully decorated with palms, red roses, and crepe paper streamers in the several colors of the emblematic star. A reception for the new officers was held in the dining room following the installation with refreshments being served to 80 guests and members. The Drartftitic department of Woman’s club will meet Monday at 8 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Robert Holthouse. Wednesday at 6:30 o’clock, members of the Decatur Business and Professional Women’s club will meet at the Zion Evangelical and B Reformed church. , Mrs. Joe Mcßride will be hostess to members of the ladies firemen's auxiliary Monday at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Clara Runyon offered the opening prayer. The program included devotions by the pastor, the Rev. Benj. G. Thomas, numbers by the Melodets, Misses Janet Miller, Eleanor Miller, Lynda Jackson and Kay Wynn, and readings by Mrs. Benj. G. Thomas, “The Old Cross Roads Store” and “Ma’s Will.” The 25 guests included Mrs. Mae Johnston and Thomas D. Kern, who now reside at the Haven Hubbard memorial home at New Carlisle; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hocker, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adler, Mr. and Mrs. Austin O. Straub, Mr. and Mrs. Orie Newhard, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Smith, Mrs. Clara Runyon, Mrs. Mollie McConnehey, Mrs. Olive Butler, Mrs. Mae Butler, Miss Anna Adler, Mrs. Lena Harruff, Mrs. Edna Spahr, Mrs. B. Hawaiian Statehood Plebiscite June 27 HONOLULU (UPI) — Gov. William F. Quinn Wednesday set June 27 for the required Hawaiian statehood plebiscite and the same date fq® primary elections to select candidates for Congress and new state offices. Candy Stolen From Home On Wednesday Mrs. Jesse Plasterer, of 1008 Patterson street, reported to the city police department Wednesday afternoon that thieves stole a bag of candy from a table at her home during the noon hour. The thieves entered the home by a door on the north side. Value of the stolen candy was listed at $2.
Supper And Auction At Adams Central The Adams Central music loyalty club will sponsor a supper and auction in the Adams Central gym Friday evening, April 10. This new organization is composed of parents of A*dams Central music students. Serving of supper will begin at 6 o’clock and continue throughout the evening. The auction, with auctioneers Gerald Strickler and Mel Liechty in charge will begin at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Rufus Sommer is in charge of arrangements for the project, and is assisted by Mrs. Orval Neuenschwander, Harold Moser, Mrs. John Mishler , and Mrs. Wilson Mann. Co-chairmen of committees are as follows: fish frying, Mrs. Orval Neuenschw ander, Mrs. Earl Stucky: sandwiches, Mrs. Glen Stucky, Mrs. Mervin Rupp; pie, cake, ice cream, Mrs. Harold Mos- ' er, Mrs. Ezra Kaehr; coffee, Mrs. Stanley Arnold, Mrs. Chalmer Barkley; orange drink, Mrs. Dan Striker, Mrs. Clark Smith: milk, Mrs. Menno Nussbaum, Mrs. Robert Welsh: tables, Mrs. Rufus Sommer, Mrs. Paul Uhrick. ■ The men of the organization will fry the fish. The public is invited to attend this first official function of the Adams Cen- ' tral music loyalty club. ; Pick Camp Sites For Brownies And Scouts I The Hanna-Nuttman park in Decatur is one of the 20 sites, where 1,800 Brownie, Intermediate and Senior Girl Scouts will attend camp this summer according to a report today from the Limberlost Girl Sfeout council. The day camp committee announced a few of the other camp sites in the area as Camp Agnes S. McMillen, about 12 miles north of Fort Wayne in Cedar Canyons; 1 Foster park pavilion 3; Village school woods; New Haven conservation club; Huntington Camp Mamie Sunley: Auburn Eckhart park; • camp Rainbow; and Wells county game preserve.
