Orders Hearing On Plea In Abatement ’ INDIANAPOLIS (UPD—Special Judge Horace Holmes, Tipton, Wednesday ordered a hearing on a plea in abatement filed by three Carpenters Union officials' seeking to avoid trial on bribedy charges in the Indiana highway scandals. Defense attorneys for Maurice A. Hutcheson, president; Frank .M. Chapman, treasurer, and O. William Blaier, vice president of the union, based their plea on the contention that the bribery indictment was returned without a witness being heard. Attorneys argued that a Marion County Grand Jury indicted the three men more than a year ago solely on evidence presented before a U. S. Senate sub-committee. Holmes said a tentative agreement was reached to hold a hearing on the plea the week of May 11 or the week of May 18. Holmes conceded that the fact that no witness appeared might make a difference but said only a hearing could determine this. Hutcheson, Chapman and Blaier were charged with bribing and conspiring to bribe Harry Doggett, Greensburg, former assistant right of way director in the Indiana State Highway Department, in connection with land deals in Lake and Wayne counties. Dutch hams bring in more revenue than any other export by the Netherlands. Next come tulip and daffodil bulbs.

Files Motion To Drop Petition Against UE The UE union, represented in Decatur at the General Electric plant, announced through its New York office today that the U. S. department of justice has filed a motion to dismiss its four-year-old petition against the 150,000-man trade union for alleged "commu- . nist infiltration’’ before the subversive activities control board. "By this motion," a UE spokes- : man said, “the department of justice admits finally that it has no case.
