Links Britain With Iraqi Communists CAIRO (UPD—United Arab Republic. President Gamal Abdel Nasser linked Britain with the Iraqi Communists in his bluntest ■ attack yet on Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and Communist infiltration of the Middle East. Nasser told cheering thousands I massed before the balcony of his presidential palace Friday night “we would not abandon our inde- ' pendence even for mjUions and " millions of guineas or rubles or The reference clearly was to I I current Soviet aid to the U.A.R., t but Western diplomats said Nasser apparently was confident the Russians would 1 not withdraw their 100-million-dollar promise to help build the Aswan Dam on the • Nile or cut off future military as- ; sista nee > — ——— Nasser said the Communists in neighboring Iraq “made an alliance with Britain to work freely against the United Arab Republic.” He said both wanted to fight Arab nationalism and get rid of its spirit. (In Baghdad, Iraqi Premier Abdel Karim Kassem, making his first speech since the unsuccessful Mosul revolt brought the U.A.R.Iraqi split into the open, was expected to reply to early Nasser charges that the Communists were using Iraq to dominate the Middle East. (The Iraqi government has charged that the U.A.R. backed revolt in an attempt to gobble uX Iraq.) Nasser, concentrating his attack on iKhrushchev himself, said the Soviet premier could do whatever , he wanted in Russia, “but we also are free in ouf country.” “If the head of the Soviet government interferes to support a small group in our nation against the unanimity of our people, we cannot accept this in any way,” he said.

Social Security Quiz Answers Many Queries
(Editor’s note: Do you have any questions about Social Security? We all do, don’t we? Send any question you might have to Social Security Quiz, c/o Daily Democrat. You’ll find your., answer in this column, which is published each Saturday.) 1. Q—l’ve worked all my life for average wages and will have to retire from my job in the next few years. Will I get social security? If so, how much? A— This letter was unsigned and had no return address. The Social Security office tells us it is similar to many they receive. It cannot be answered because you did’nt give the necessary information to permit an answer. We don’t know how much you earned, how old you are or when retirement might come. We don’t even know whether it’s a man or woman. All these things affect the answer. In general, benefits range from $33 to sll6 per month. 2. Q—l’m retiring next month at 68 years of age and have a wife, age 50. and a child, age 28, who has been totally disabled since f birth. I know I will be entitled to i benefits, but I want to ask about my wife and child. Isn’t there something social security can do for them? A— Thq Social Security Act" provides monthly benefits for disabled children and' for a mother who has a child in her care. From your question it appears that your wife and child may be eligible to receive monthly benefits. You should see your social security representative as soon as possible. 3. Q—My job is covered by social security and I have a wife and two small children. What social security benefits, if any, could my family expect to receive in the event of my death? A—There are two payments your family could receive in the event of your death. The first payment would be a lump-sum death payment and secondly, there would be monthly benefits for your widow and children until the younest child reached age eighteen. Your widow would be entitled to benefits again at age 62. 4. Q—l am a widower receiving $98.50 per month from social security. I want to marry a lady who receives $57.00 per month as a widow. She says we can’t marry as she would lose her $57.00 and we can't live on my $98.50. Is she right? ’ A— Under the law, we can pay the lady an amount equal to onehalf.,of your benefit immediately after your marriage. Her widow’s payment would stop at that time. 5. Q—l’m past 65 aqd receiving social security benefits. I have a part time job. My employer insists Former Local Woman Is Given Sentence A 35-year-old former Decatur woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Jacobs, was sentenced to the Ohio women's reformatory in Marysville, 0., Friday for one year after being found guilty of contributing toward the neglect-and dependency of her six children. Her husband, Carlos, is already serving a one-year sentence at tile Toledo workhouse. The sentence was issued by Judge Cathryn L. Harrington of the Van Wert, 0., county juvenile court. Judge Harrington, however, suspended tiie pregnant mother’s sentence, and placed her on probation for two years. All six children had previously been removed from the home and placed in permanent custody of the department of welfare. Also in Van Wert juvenile court, Richard Clark Jester of Van Wert pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecent exposure in the presence of a 15-year-old child, and trial was set for March 31. Jester was returned to jail when he could not meet bond of $2,000.
- . that I show him my social secur- 1 ity number. Is this necessary, as I’m already getting benefits? A— Your employer is right. ! The law requires your employer to : report your wages and your social ; security number. It also requires him to pay social security taxes on your wages despite the fact you are drawing benefits. Your employer is trying to observe the lAw. 6. Q —l’ve decided to make a career of the Air Force. I’m a family man and entered active duty July 1957, having never worked before under social security. What is the earliest date my wife and children are covered for survivor’s benefits by social security? A—Your family would be covered for survivor’s benefits as soon after October 1, 1958, as you were paid SSO or more in wages in October 1958. 7. If a worker past 50 becomes disabled, how soon after the date of disability can he be eligible for benefits? A—There is a waiting period of six months between the month , of disability and the first month of eligibility. A worker disabled in January, 1959, could not be eligible for disability insurance payments until August, 1959. i Windy And Cold On First Day Os Spring United Press International Spring rode into Indiana today on gusty winds and frosty temperatures. Northwesterly winds chased away balmy temperatures which prevailed in winter’s last two days and pushed the mercury down to freezing across the northern edge of the state — even a little lower in the Chicago area. Wind gusts up to 32 miles per hour were measured as the new season arrived in the early morning hours and Hoosiers bade farewell to a winter which featured a mixture of deep snows, floods, windstorms and icy cold temperatures. A rather cold weekend was inj .store.... - - Highs today were expected to range from 30 to 50 and Sunday from 40 to 45, in contrast to top readings Friday which ranged from 57 at Indianapolis to 63 at Evansville. Lows tonight will iange from around 20 to 35, somewhat lower than Friday night’s lows ranging from 32 across the upstate area to 41 at Evansville. Verylight rain recorded around the state Friday vanished by dawn and the outlook for the week-end was for no further precipitation. Partly cloudy to fair | conditions win—prevail—Sunday, with increasing cloudiness and warmer on the menu for Monday. Adjutant General's Aide Dies In Crash EDINBURG, Ind. (UPD The body of Capt.
