Humphrey of Minnesota. considered a Demo l cratic presidential possibility in 196, was the top speaker today at the second session of the National Farmers Union convention. The convention Monday was marked by heavy criticism of the Eisenhower administration farm policy, with Sen. Stuart Symington (D-Mo.) and NFU President James G. Patton of Denver leading the attack. Symington, also listed among the Democratic presidential possibilities for 1960, accused President Eisenhower and Agriculture Secretary Ezra T. Benson of misrepresenting the farm problem. “If these people had been half as successful helping farmers as they have been spreading fairy tales about farmers, we would have a better farm program today,” Symington said. He said any new farm program must create a situation “in which farmers are able to compete more favorably with the other, more closely organized segments of the economy.” Price supports “just do not “ effec l iv f production or marketing controls, he said. Patton charged that the Eisenhower administration farm policy is “firmly set on a course of ruination” for “family farmers.” Patton said he was convinced that so long as Eisenhower is president and Benson is agriculture secretary "there never will be any real understanding of our problem.” Patton said farmers should be able to adjust their market supplies and that “economic studies show that total demand for food in the market place is very inelastic. Just a little too much keeps the prices at a depressed level.” About 50 delegates from 23 ' states were attending the conven- ■ tion. Humphrey was slated to speak at 3:45 p.m. today. United Auto Workers Union President Walter Reuther was scheduled to address a banquet Wednesday night. If you nate something to sell or rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad — They bring results. Dulles Decision Is Expected April 6 WASHINGTON iUPI) — Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, scheduled to leave the hospital within a week, is expected to decide by April 6 whether he will remain in President Eisenhower’s 1 ' cabinet. ■ Massive radiation treatments of I his abdominal cancer will end in 1 a few days. But State Department sources said Dulles probably would stay at Walter Reed Army Hospital through the weekend. These sources said he probably would go to some “warm, sunny place” for two additional weeks of rest before making a decision. Indications were that Dulles’ physicians would wait until then to give a diagnosis of whether his month, of. treatment had arrested the canter. This timetable appeared to eliminate participation by Dulles in a conference of Western foreign ministers here the first week of April on the Berlin situation. Dulles will not join Eisenhower and British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan for talks beginning Friday at Camp David. Md. But Macmillan Is expected to call on Dulles here, either before or after the Camp David conference.
