Contract Awarded For Road Grader A bid of $17,232 by the Indiana Equipment Co,. Inc., of Indianapolis, was accepted by the Adams county commissioners Monday for the dwchase it a naw road grader for the Adams county highway department. Included in the purchase of the new* grader will be the trade-in of the 1954 model No. 212 Caterpillar used in past years by the highway department. Six bids were submitted to the commissioners for study. Certain specifications were required, of which most of the submitted bids listed, but same had additional equipment listed which made the comparison of'prices rather difficult. Blds submitted and names of the companies are the following: Caterpillar. $17,230, listed a standard transmission; Huber-Warco, $16,675, including a standard transmission, and a bid of $17,095 with an automatic transmission; AllisChalmers, $17,270.30. with standard transmission; Adams, $17,040, with standard transmission; and $18,518 with a torque converter; and Austin-Weston, $15,711 with standard transmission, and $16,960 with a torque converter. The new grader is a T-500 motor grader wtih a torque converter and power shift transmission. It Is expected to be delivered within the next two weeks. The commissioners stated that the principal difference in the road graders discussed Monday with representatives of each company, was the maneuverability of the tilting blade by the operator from the cab. The county commissioners will meet next Monday in a special session with the county council to discuss the appropriation of the additional SIB,OOO needed in the construction of the proposed Adams county highway building. The commissioners announced at last week’s meeting that the new building would cost nearly $50,000 raththan the $32,000 believed sufficient to construction the one-st6ry~strtte-ture.
