Bank Robber Search On In Pennsylvania ALTOONA, Pa. (UPD — State police road blocks were set up today from Harrisburg to Pittaburgh in an increasingly Intense effort to run to ground bank robber Frank Sprenz, one of the nation’s "most wanted" desperados. An officer at Hollidaysburg Barracks said the road blocks and check points would be maintained “on a line between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg” with special attention paid to roads leading southward where Sprenz was reported seen late Wednesday. Unconfirmed reports that Sprenz was seen in wide ly -s e pa—rated locales continued to flood in. The latest report was that an unidentified motorist saw the fugitive driving a 1953 gray Ford auto on Route 224 in Summit County, Ohio near Akron at 12:20 a. m. today. Scores of Ohio state patrolmen and FBI agents converged on the road near the intersection o f Route 8 and set up roadblocks. but without result. Sprenz also was reported seen near Pikesville, Md. Wednesday. Sprenz, 29, is a prime suspect in last Monday’s $29,955 robbery of the First National Bank at Hamilton, Ohio. He has been the object of a multi - state search since the robbery, fleeing Ohio one step ahead of the authorities in a stolen plane. The cocky gunman’s trail freshened Wednesday when a patrolman in Pikesville, Md. attempted to catch a motorist resembling the fugitive, but failed when his cruiser was outdistanced. Earlier Wednesday, a more tangible clue was picked up in Altoona tvhen police found money wrappers from the Hamilton bank in a hotel room shortly after a man resembling Sprenz checked out. Altoona police believed a faulty fuel pump in Sprenz’ blue Buick auto caused the fugitive to ma|e a brief layover in Altoona. Frederick T. Schenk, proprietor of the hotel where ’Sprenz was believed to have stayed, said the man checked out at 1:15 p. m. Wednesday after having his fuel pump repaired.
