” School Consolidation » Measure Advances n INDIANAPOLIS (UPD — A bill designed to force consolidation of some small high schools moved * past second reading in the Indiir ana House today in a form which appeared to represent a compromise between two schools of thought on how it should be done. The bill, already passed by the Senate 44-4, would create a state commission and a county t study commission on school reorganization in each of the 92 counties with authority to recommend consolidations. The House tacked on an amendment providing that any high school with fewer than 120 pupils would lose state aid if it failed to heed a commission recommendation for consolidation. Earlier, the House had passed a bill by a 59-37 vote which flatly withheld state aid from high schools of fewer than 120 pupils. This bill has not yet come up for second reading in the Senate. The House amendment to the Senate bill appeared to be an effort to reach a compromise between the drastic House bill and the more delicate Senate bill. Sens. D. Russel Bontrager tRElkhart) and Von A. EiShhorn <D- — Uniondale) who introduced the Senate bill declined to discuss the House amendment until they have had more time to study it. Both expressed an opinion, however, that a conference committee could work out a satisfactory compromise. Driver Killed When Auto Crashes Tree TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (UPD — Max Frederick Ashley, 29.
