Carter. 30, who were among the 11 arrested, admitted the $60,000 jewel burglary last June 21 of the Leo Lippman home. Two women were among those arrested. They were identified by police as Mrs. Ruby Utke, 30, charged with first - degree burglary, and Mrs. Evelyn Hall. 47,

The officers waited in most cases until after the suspects and their families were asleep, then knocked on doors after stationing rings of policemen around the homes to prevent escapes. Moreno was arrested, in Texas, where part of the Lippman jewelry was found in his possession.

Bad Weather Hits Areas Os Nation United Press International Outbreaks of cold air in the East, locally heavy rains along the Gulf and fog in the Midwest brewed. new weather troubles in the nation Wednesday. A cold air mass plunged across the Northeast Tuesday night in the wake of a fast-moving storm which deposited two inches at Rochester, N.Y., and raised the snow accumulation at Boston to five inches. In the South, New Orleans was drenched by another half-inch of rain Tuesday night, bringing the city’s total to five inches in the past two days. Lafayette, La., was soaked by a ,90-inch downpour. . Earlier Tuesday, nearly four inches of rain touched off flooding at Texas City. Tex. Water ran hubcap deep in the streets and reached up to the floorboards of homes. Fog blanketed much of eastern lowa and western Illinois during the night, cutting visibility to near zero at some points. Sub-zero readings gripped northern New England as temperatures dropped 20 degrees or more in the Northeast during the night. Readings in the 30s were reported as far south as the Carolinas. Slightly warmer weather occurred in the northern plains and upper Mississippi Valley. The temperatures skidded to 11 below zero at Pellston, Mich., Tuesday Night and then climbed 23 degrees in two hours as warmer winds moved in from the West. An ice jam on the Wapsipinicon River in lowa swelled the stream to near bankful, and officials warned of possible flooding in the De Witt area. Wabash River floodwaters in llabout 600 evacuees remained out of their homes. Five feet of water covered the town of Westport. 111., and Rep. George Shipley (D - Ill.) asked President Eisenhower and Illinois Gov. William Stratton to declare the state's flood-stricken counties disaster areas. Lafayette Accident Takes Third Victim LAFAYETTE. Ind. (UPI) — Lloyd I. Kintner, 45, Lafayette, died late Tuesday afternoon in St. Elizabeth hospital here, the third person to die of injuries sustained in a traffic accident last Saturday night in West Lafayette. Edward Ungersma, 48, and Jack Brady. 40, Lafayette, were the other victims of the accident.
