Decatur Catholic's hustling Commodores shot .437 from the field, but deferred to the tall Hawks’ .500 shooting average, losing the regular season finale Friday, 80-63, at Harlan. The Hawk offense consisted of trigger-quick passes that beat Decatur’s zone, superior height, resulting in board control, "and two 6-4 boys who got 49 points between them. Hie Commodores did manage to put the clamps on the Hawks’ vaunted fast break, but had many shots blocked by the taller and speedier Harlan team. Don Baker, with fine support from Gene Wilder in the half, and Tom Gross and Steve Omlor in the second, led Commodore scorers, but be got only seven of his 25 in the first half. Jon Closson and Al Stiver, the „ t w o tall titans, carried the Hawks to a commanding half time lead, 46-28, after being ahead only three points at the first quarter, 16-13. The Hawks bounce passed the ball adroitly under the boards until a man got open to score an easy bucket. Wilder led the Commodore’ surge in the first period that came within two points at 3:03, 9-11, and 13-15 at :59, but too many Commodore shots were blocked by the high-flying Hawks. Wilder was also high man in the second quarter, but only got eight points from teammates in support as Harlan racked up 30 points in a prolific scoring display. Coach Al Lindahl’s team stayed , close during the second half, cut-| ting the margin to a 13-point low, but the Clossom-Cliver combo would come right back with a basket of its own. Baker put the score at 52-65 with 6:22 of the final session with two quick fielders, but Decatur then couldn't keep up the furious pace. The Commodores closed out with a 5-14 seasonal mark, while Coach Elmer Stdatman’s team had 14-6. Cbmir-oceres FG FT TP | Wilder 71 15 , P.
