$4,800 of more a year, -you now pay $l2O in social security taxes. Under present law, your tax will jump $24 negt January and climb gradually to a peak of $216 in 1969. On top or tnis, rprand’s bill would add sl2 a year to pay for the medical benefits program-—a smaller tax increase for those making less than $4,800 a year.
Foes charge this would fall far short of meeting ultimate costs. Forand as much as conceded this, claiming only that his bill would match costs “for some time at least.” The bill would provide up to 60 days a year in hospital care for social security beneficiaries. It also would pay for care in a nursing home and surgical services.

Cyprus Parley Postponed By Plane Crash LONDON (UPD — The Cyprus conference was postponed today pendng the recovery of Turkish Premier Adnan Menderes from injuries received in a plane crash that took 12 lives Tuesday. • Menderes, who was reported suffering from shock and bruised ribs, will undergo a full physical examination to determine Whether he will be able to withstand the tensions and rigors of a major diplomatic conference. The premier was one of 10 persons who survived when their plane crashed in a wood in a dense fog near Gatwick Airport south of London. The Turkish turbo-prop Viscount airliner had been diverted from London’s airport because of the fog. Greek Premier Arrives Greek Premier Constantine Karamanlis, also arriving for the conference that was to lead to independence for Cyprus, landed at Gatwick Airport a short time later without any difficulty. He attended a working dinner party at No. 10 Downing Street given by Prime Minister Harold Macmillan for the Greek and Turkish delegations. The Turkish delegation excused itself from attending, and Karamanlis and Macmillan left the affair to visit the London clinic where Menderes was under treatment. The Turkish premier was asleep when they arrived and they spent only 12 minutes ’there. Macmillan immediately canceled all further tripartite meetings of the Cyprus conference pending a report on Menderes’ condition. Makarios Asks Changes The Cyprus conference had been proceeding under the utmost optimism, with Britain, Turkey and Greece reported in agreement on all phases of the proposed treaty drawn up by the Greeks and the Turks at a six day meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, earlier this month. The only question remained the position of Archbishop Makarios, the Greek Cypriot religious leader, who was reported demanding some modifications in the plan. Menderes' plane crashed in a wooded area on a farm near Gatwick when a blanket of fog moved in swiftly and unexpectedly and covered the landing approach. All four engines and the two wings of the plane were stripped off as toe plane carved a 200-yard swath through the trees. Officials said the forward part of the plane was crumpled into a ball.
