Much Os Farmland In County Damaged Cost estimates of flood damage to Adams county farms were not immediately available, but the heavy influx of farmers to the Decatur soil conservation service office Friday denoted an increasing awareness of how properdrainage could have kept damage to a minimum. Cletus Gillman, soil conservationist, said that many of the persons who figuratively flooded the office to apply for single and group drainage projects, realize now that much of the high water could have been disposed of by good drainage. Much of Adams county farmland was affected by run-off and high water but the situation here was not as extreme as most other counties in Northern Indiana, according to county agent Leo Seltenrlght. Herman Buhlman, chairman of the board of supervisors of Adams county SCS district, said that the increase in requests would all be taken care of as quickly as possible, but the interested parties should take note that the , SCS technicians will be heavily burdened for a while. • , Army engineers were in the , Adams county area Friday check* . ing on damage to levees and other ' flood control items. Because . Ad- , ams county was declared a “state of emergency area by Gov. Har- > old Handley, the engineers are estimating cost of damages to I farmers who will receive assist- ! $ ; ance. Two Jailbreaking Brothers Caught NASHVILLE, Ind. (UPI) —Harold Carlisle, 26, and his brother, Arnold, 19, who slipped away from a Brown County work detail Friday, were caught six hours later hiding beneath a bridge at the edge of Nashville. v Three Persons Dead In Apartment Fire MONTREAL (UPI) — The unofficial death toll rose to three early today in an apartment house fire here.
