,< - -' MISS JANICE MAE BADENHOP and Frederick R. Schlemmer are engaged to wed, according to an announcement by her parents, Mr and Mrs. Carl Badenhop of 1130 Nuttman Avenue. Mrs. Rudolph Schlemmer and the late Mr. Schlemmer are parents of her fiance. Miss Badenhop is a senior at Decatur high school. SEVENTEEN ATTEND TRAIL RIDERS MEETING The Ijmberlost Trail Riders held their February meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Pansier Sunday with 17 members present. Members of the organization agreed to again sponsor the 4-H horse and pony project. A committee consisting of Oscar Ray, Dr. Elizabeth Peck, Ed Gerbers, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Secaur, Miss Shirley Worden, and Everett Singleton will instruct the 4-H members in junior and advanced horsemanship. ' Mr. and Mrs. Fansler served refreshments at the close of the meeting. In charge of the March j meeting will be Mr. and Mrs. Paul : Strickler. ALPHA SIGMA CHAPTER ENTERTAINED BY ASSOCIATES Tuesday evening, the Associate chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa, were hostesses for a Valentine party honoring the Alpha Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa. The American Legion home was the meeting place for the affair. Valentine appointments were used throughout the home. Mrs. Reid Erekson presented her original dramatic interpretation of “The Music Man’’ for entertainment. After the presentation the guests found their partners and proceeds ed to the tea table. The table was* centered with an icicle tree with red hearts dangling from the limbs. Presiding at the tea table were president, Mrs. Forest Murray, and Miss Frances Dugan, and Mrs. C. E. Bell were guests. The committee in charge of the party included Mrs. Robert Mills, Mrs. Watson Maddox, Mrs. Walter Krick, Mrs. Frank Braun, and Miss Dorothy Schnepf. There will be a sing bee at the Greenbrier church Sunday at 2 o’clock. Everyone is invited. The Thursday meeting of the Queen of Rosary study club has been cancelled. Members of the W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church are asked to takenote that the meeting for Thursday has been postponed until Friday atthe same time. Mrs. William Kohne will be hostess to members of the Profit and Pleasure Home Demonstration •flub Thursday at 7:30 o’clock. A V.F.W. Auxiliary meeting will be held Monday at 8 o’clock at the post home. Members are asked to take note that the white elephant sale will be held Saturday. Annual guest night will be observed by members of the Pheobe Bible class of the Zion Evangelical | and Reformed church Thursday at 6:15 o’clock in the church. Members are to bring a guest, covered dish, and table service. Monday at 8 o'clock, members of the Rosary Society will meet at the K. of C. hall. The Ruth Circle meeting of the Presbyterian church which was scheduled to meet tonight has been postponed. Mrs. Cal Yost will be hostess to members of the Decatur Garden i club Tuesday at 2 o’clock. Members are asked to note that the j meeting place has been changed. *-■ Mrs. Otto Thieme will be hostess to members of the Merry Matrons Home Demonstration club Tuesday at 7:30 o’clock. Members of the Calvary E.U.B. W.S.W.S. will meet Thursday with Mrs. Wayne Gaunt instead of Friday. Starting time will be 7:30 o’ dock.
MBS. GEORGE SQUIERS W LEADER AT MEETING Mrs. George Squiers presented the lesson at the Tuesday afternoon meeting of members of th® Rose Garden club which was held at the home of Mrs. Meldren Kreps. After the club had repeated the club collect and the pledge to the flag, under the leadership of Mrs. Frank Crist, Mrs. Squiers presented her lesson on indoor seed sewing. She stated that February and March were plenty early to start seed indoors for spring transplanting. Roll call was answered by members telling of their favorite Minutes of the prev•ious meeting were read by the secretary. Mrs. Grover Levy, and approved by the group. The president told of the state convention to be held April 23 through 25 at Evansville. The district meeting will be held at Roanoke November 5. Mrs. Alva Buffenbarger and Mrs. Squiers were named as the auditing committee, after which an election of officers took place. Mrs. Wilbur Stanley is the new president. Vice president is Mrs. Richard Mailand and Mrs. Frank Crist is the secretary. Serving as newly elected treasurer is Mrs. Harry Hebble. Mrs. C. D. Amick was in charge of a contest on February with >Mrs. Carl Barnett and Mrs. Clarence Smitley winning prizes. Mrs Kreps -was- assisted by Mrs. Frank Crist in serving refreshments. MRS. BILL ARNOLD IS RECENT HOSTESS Mrs. Bill Arnold was hostess Monday evening to members of the Merrier Monday Home Demonstration club. Mrs. Dee Myron Byerly served as co-hqgtess. Mrs Gene Bluhm opened the meeting and she had the group repeat? die club collect. Mrs. Richard Conrad and Mrs. Leroy Kolter were in charge of the devotions. The fourth chapter of John was read and Mrs. Kolter gave an appropriate reading about Presidents Washington and Lincoln. » Also as leader, Mrs. Kolter pre- " sented a lesson on meal management in the form of a demonstration. One dish meals were made after which the members were given a sample. A health and safety lesson was given by Mrs. Leo Sheets. Mrs. Dale Fruechte led thef group in singing, after which roll call was taken. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were then heard. A short business meeting was held and over by Mrs. Bluhm, during which Mrs. Junior Arnold was presented with a past president’s pin. Secret pal gifts were received by Mrs. Richard Longenberger, Mrs. Roger Longenberger. Mrs. Robert Maftkey, Mrs. Clint Reed, Mrs. Richard Conrad, and Mrs. Irvin Worthman. Refresments were served at the close of the meeting by the hostesses. Mrs. Robert Mankey was awarded the door prize. Mrs. Darrell Arnold will be hostess for the next meeting. ——— CLUB FLOWER IS SELECTED AT MEETING The Don Stafford home was the scene of the recent meeting of members of the Welcome Wagon tclub. Mrs. Glenn McCammon and Mrs. A. B. Harvey assisted the ! hostess. ** 1 Members decided upon a rose for the club flower, after which those attending were assessed a penny for each button on their clothes to help raise extra money for the club. Traveling bingo was played during the social hour. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. John Hefner with a silent auction.
CLUB COLLECT OPENS CIVIC MEETING MONDAY The club collect opened the Monday meeting of members of the Civic department of the Decatur Woman’s club, who gathered at ; the home of Mrs. Harold Owens : with 23 present. Mrs. Franeis Ellsworth was in charge of* the business meeting. Mrs. Lowell Smith gave a brief talk on the life, modes, and habits of the American home, after which Miss Betsy Burk told of her experiences in a German home. Mrs. Leonard Kingsley of Berne showed slides and told of her experiences on the Island of Timor where she and her family lived for two and one half years. . Refreshments were served following the meeting by Mrs. Owens assisted by Mrs. Lowell Smith, Mrs. B. R. Farr, Mrs. Cletus Miller, and Mrs. Frank Lynch,. D.A.V. AUXILIARY PLANS FAMILY SUPPER The members of the D.A.V. auxl iliary held their regular business meeting recently at the D.A.V. hall. Plans were made for the family pot luck supper which will be held Friday at the D.A.V. hall. All DAV members and auxiliary members are invited and asked to bring a covered dish and their own table service. White elephant games will be played durinng the evening. Those attending are also asked to bring a white elephant gift. The supper will begin at 8 o’clock. RESEARCH CLUB MEETS MONDAY AT BOND HOME Mrs. H. J. Bond entertained members of the Research club in .her home Monday Members responded to roll call, answering with current events. Mrs. J. M. Doan was in charge of the program and she gave an account of the school of Lincoln’s time. She also read a review of the first school in Decatur written by French Quinn. At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostess. • * Girl Uninjured As Auto Strikes Pole A student of Berne-French high school escaped without injuries Tuesday night when the auto she was driving was involved in a onecar collision one mile west and one mile north of Berne on county road 35. The auto driven by Judy Habegger, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Habegget, of Berne, and a student at BerneFrench high school, slid on the ice which had accumulated on the d aounjy jroad and struck a light TTie state police were called to the scene about 6:30 o’clock to conduct an investigation, and estimated damages to the front of the car at about S2OO. No one was injured in the accident. The auto was owned by the A. J. Moser Motor Sales Inc., of Berne according to the investigating officer. Mary Weidler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weidler. of Bluffton route 4, has enrolled at Taylor University for the second semester of the 1958-59 school year. Miss Eloise Noll of Decatur and Miss Evelyn Humerickhause, of Ohio City, Ohio, both suffered foot fractures in falls recently. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Tooke, former residents of Decatur, will spend a few days visiting with their daughter, Mrs. Robert E. Taylor of 804 Monroe stWet. The Yookes are on a buying trip through the mid-west for their china chop in Oneida, N.Y.
