Carol Sue Mahlan Is Bride Saturday Os James Grotrian White candles and vases of white snapdragons and pompoms graced the altar of the Antioch Lutheran church of Hoagland for the Saturday evening marriage of Miss Carol Sue Mahlan, daughter of Mr. 'and Mrs. Henry Mahlan of route 1. Hoagland, to James Grotrian. son of Mr and Mrs. Sari Grotrian of route 7, Fort Wayne. The Rev. Robert Whitenack preformed the double ring ceremony at 6:30 o’clock. ,Mrs. Lloyd Borwn and Gene Brown provided nuptial music. Included in the vocalist’s numbers, were “The Lord's Prayer” and Wither Thou Goest” Wearing a gown of taffeta, _ the bride was escorted down the candle lit aisle by her father. The molded bodice featured an embroidered scalloped scoop neckline outlined in sequins and pearls. Traditional long sleeves ended in points over her hands. Her very bouffant skirt featured a scroll design with pearl and sequin motifs with a small poss bustle detailing the back. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion was caught to a crown of pearls. Miss Mahlan carried a white prayer book topped with a white orchid and Lilly of the valley. Mrs. Norman Steury, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor in a capucine gown of plain and embroidered taffeta. Os ballerina length, the princess style gown featured a scoop neckline outlined with embroidered, taffeta. Her full skirt featured inserts of embroidered taffeta and a tailored bow at the back neckline fell the full length of the gown. She wore a matching headpiece of feathers with a nylon moline circular veil.

A cascade arrangement of brown pompoms and ivy complemented her attire. Miss Sharon Stilts of Union City, Miss Beverly Grotrian, of Fort Wayne and sister of the bride, attended as bridesmaids and junior bridesmaid, respectively. The attendants were gowned identically to Mrs. Steury and carried like flower arrangements. Little Miss Toni Mahlan, as flower girl, wore a matching gown and a bonnet trimmed with tiny buds. —Best mjin for the occasion was Jay Feagler, brother-in-law of the bridegroom. John Mahlan and Bob Gepfert served as ushers. Mrs. Mahlan selected for her daughter’s wedding, a russet wool jersey dress with tan accessories and a corsage of Bonnie Joe roses. A light beige two piece knft suit with brown accessories was worn by Brs. Grotrian. She too, wore a rose corsage. Immediately following the Ceremony, a reception was held at Besancon recreation hall. Hostesses were Mrs. Gerald Aspy, Mrs. Edgar Kraft, and Mrs. Lloyd Brown. A two piece black and grey Wool suit with black accessories was chosen by the bride for a southern wedding trip. Future residence of the couple will be route 1, Hoagland. ** ’ s SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS HAS DINNER AT CHURCH Members of the Wesley Sunday school glass, of the First Methodist church met recently in the church dining room for a supper which was prepared and served by the committee to 21 members. Valentine appointments were used on the tables. Following th(. : supper, the meeting was opened by Mrs. Orval Baughman reading from the book of Ephesians, six to 16. Mrs. J. M. Doan read and gave a preview of part one of “Spiritual Life For Methodist Christians.” Class president, Mrs. Doan, presided over the business meeting for which a number, of hymns were sung by the members. After the business session, a social hour was held. Those on the committee include ed Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Doan, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Baughman, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Sprague, Mrs. Harold Gay, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elzey/ Mr. and Mrs. Willard McBride, and Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Van Horn. Wednesday at 8 o’clock, members of the Naomi Circle of the Presbyterian church will meet at the home of Mrs. Roger Blackburn at 1128 Mix Avenue.
FIFTY FOURTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED The 54th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Mcßride was observed Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mcßride in Eiting Acres. The elder Mr. and Mrs. Mcßride were married February 11 in Mercer county, Ohio in 1905. They moved to Adams county in 1914 and have resided in this area since. They are the parents of seven childirln and 29 grandchildren. They also have 10 great-grand-children. Those who attended the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mcßride, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Porter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mcßride, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mcßride, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mcßride, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ramsey, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Barr, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Arnold. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Mcßride, and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mygrant. Several of the younger generations of the family were also in attendance. BETTY HAUGK INSTALLED BY RAINBOW GIRLS Chapter 24 of the Rainbow girls held their installation of officers Thursday dt the Masonic hall. The chapter room was decorated in the Valentine themei. Instaling officers were. Miss Carol Norquest, drill leader; Mrs. Anita Macklin, chaplain: Miss Elaine Cochran, recorder; Mrs. Harry Dailey, organist; and Mrs. R. O. Wynn, installing mother advisor. Miss Betty Haugk was installed aS’ the worthy advisor in the impressive ceremony. The new worthy advisor was escorted to the east by her father, Robert Haugk, and her cousin. Miss Lou Ann Affolder. The Rainbow Girls then formed an arch, dressed in white aprons and white hats, and carrying kitchen utensils. Miss Donna Shoaf sang “Green Cathedral,” after which Miss Haugk was present- * ed with a bouquet of red roses. The 'meeting was closed with all those present repeating the Lord’s Prayer. OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL P.T.A. MEETS FEBRUARY 2 The January and February meeting of the Vera Cruz opportunity school P.T.A. was held February 2 at the school. Plans for the benefit dinner were announced by Mrs. Floyd Petzel, chairman of the ways and means committee. Tickets were distributed to the parents and members of the executive committee. The dinner will be held at the Elks in Bluffton February 28 from 4:30 o’clock until 8 o’clock. The Chatterbox sponsored a record hop recently with a can of food as the admission. Part of the food was given to the school and will be used for the dinner. 1 Pupils of the school were taken to the Shrine circus Saturday. Announcement was made that the teachers. Mrs. Alfred Girod, Mrs. Hugh Cobb, and Mrs. Harvey Inskeep have completed a course of 18 weeks at Fort Wayne and have given tests that were required by the course, to the children. Plans for the future meetings were announced with the next meeting to bq held March 6. Refreshments were served in the cafeteria by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Eicher, Mrs. Palmer Sprunger, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Blocker, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zook, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Roman, Mrs. Mary Stephens, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Caston. PRAYER SERVICE PRECEDES REGULAR CLUB MEETING Mrs. Paul Nussbaum led members of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Monroe Methodist church, in a five minute prayer service preceding the general February meeting held recently. A piano prelude by Mrs. Russel Mitchel, opened the meeting followed with the business session conducted by Mrs. Glen Stucky. After the minutes and roll call had been taken, Mrs. Stucky announced that the world day of prayer services would be held at the church Friday at 7 o’clock. Mrs. Oran Augsburger will be the speaker for the meeting to lyhich the public is invited. Plans were also discussed for the father and son banquet to be held April 1. The devotional period opened with the group singing, “He Leadeth Me,” with Mrs Elmer Inniger reading devotions. Miss Donna McCullough. accompanied by her sister Joselyn, presented a vocal solo. Miss Carol Haggard, evening speaker, told of her work at the Methodist youth camp at Albuquerque, New Mexico, last Summer. Following a vocal duet by Mrs. Philip Barger and Mrs. Arlen Mitchel, Mrs. Stucky closed the meeting withrs-prayer. During the social hour, refreshments were served by Mrs. Shelton Wagley, Mrs. Gillian Stucky, Mrs. Ed Pierce, Mrs. Richard Martin. Mrs. Gerald Cook. Mrs. Howard Hendricks. Mrs. Clarence Dicks, and Mrs. Flossie Gerhardt. LADIES FELLOWSHIP / * MEETS RECENTLY The Ladies Fellowship members of the Missionary church met cently in the basement of the church. There were 13 members and two guests, Miss DOrris Garb<>den and Mrs. Raymond Winteregg, present for the meeting which was spent in sewing a comforter and quilt blocks. The business meeting was operted by the president after which Mrs. Gerald Gerig gave the opening prayer. Mrs. Mervin Rupp read the devotions using Ephesians five, verses one to 15. The theme on “stewardship of our time and redeeming the time for the Lord" was given by the leader. After the song, “Take Time to Be Holy,” had been sung, the meeting was closed with a prayer.

Maryanne Sa hr Is Married Saturday To Dan Krueckberg Miss Maryanne Sahr became the bride of Dan William Krueckberg in a double ding ceremony preformed Saturday evening at 6:30 o’clock in the Redemption Lutheran church of Battle Creek, Mich. The vows were read by the Rev. E. W. Nuelken before an altar graced VPith baskets of roses and carnations. Nuptial music was provrdfd~by Mrs. Donald Wilson, organist, and Miss Gloria Peterson, soloist Mr. and Mrs. Howard A. Sahr of I Battle Creek, are parents of the bride and the bridegroom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman H Krueckeberg of Decatur. Attendants in red velvet proceded Miss Sahr down the aisle, which was lit by candles tied with white ; ribbons. The gowns of the matron of honor and bridesmaids Mrs. Richard Schroer. and Miss Cherry Hyslop, Miss Adrene Rerfler, and Miss Karen Johnson, respectively, were styled with sheath lines and skirted with red nylon net shaped like a petal. They wore matching bands of red feathers and carried bouquets of white carnations and roses. Miss Debra Butler served as flower girl in a matching red ’velvet dress. The bride appeared, on the arm ,0f her father, in a gown of silk taffeta. A great skirt shaped like a petal folded into cartridge pleats to form a chapel train. Delicate traceries of re-embroidered alecon lace, seed pearls, and sequins accented the high bodice which was detailed with a bow. Her fingertip veil of illusion, was caught to a queen's crown of lace edged with seed pearls and sequins. Attending his brother • as best man was John Krueckberg of Decatur. Ushers were William Zwick, Phillip Deßolt, and James Sheets, all former classmates of the bridegroom. ■ —-— A navy blue lace dress with a cummerbund of chiffon and floating black panels was worn by Mrs. Sahr. Mrs. Krueckberg chose a powder blue lace dress with a swirl skirt. Both mothers wore white orchid corsages. Sprays of flowers decorated the Eagles lodge for the reception which was held for 150 guests after the Ceremony. Mrs. Estelle Digite, aunt of the bride, presided at the guest book. Miss Andrea Ackles and Miss Gloria Peterson poured the punch and Mrs. Robert Erhardt and Mrs. Ed. W. Nuelken cut the cake. The bride, who attended Valparaiso Uhiversity for two years, is employed by the Indiana Steel Products company in Valparaiso. The bridegroom graduated from Decatur and is attending Valparaiso The new Mr. and Mrs. .Krueckeberg will make their home at 359 .parfield in QMembers of the Psi lota Xi sorority will meet with Mrs. Ferd Klenk Tuesday at 8 o’clock. A regular meeting of the Eagles auxiliary will be held Tuesday at 8 o’clock at the Eagles hall. The Decatur Methodist W.S.C.S. members .will meet at the church Thursday at 11 o’clock. Members of the American Legion auxiliary are asked to be prompt at the meeting to be held at the home Friday at 8 o’clock. Members of the Junior Auxiliary will open the meeting and Mrs. Herman Dierkes will present a film on Girl’s State. The public is invited to attend. Members of the Xi Alpha lota and Epsilon Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi are asked to take note that- the meeting will not be held this Wednesday. Therman Drew will be the speaker at the Wednesday meeting Os the B.P.W. club which will be held at the American Legion home beginning at 5:45 o'clock.

everrbady class meets IN METHODIST CHURCH The February meeting of the ever/eady Sunday school class was held recently in the lounge of the First Methodist church. Devotional leader for the’ evening was Mrs. Lloyd Ruse and she read an article written by Bishop Berber Welsh. Mrs. Gail Baughman presided over the short business session. During the social hour, Miss Bernice Nelson played records by the DePauw University choir. After the closing of the meeting the hostesses, Mrs. Frank Crist, Mrs Dovie Bedwell, and Mrs. Lloyd Ruse served refreshments in keeping with St. Valentine day. i At 8 o’clock Thursday evening, members of the Decatur Emblem club will meet at the Elks, home. Ered Lengerich and his house guest, Tom Kroeger of Alvin, 111., have returned to St. Joseph college after spending the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lengerich and attending the Decatur Catholic homecoming game. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ziner left Wednesday for Sarasota, Fla., where they plan to vacation for a while. Master Ron Jones of Gas City is visiting at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodson Ogg, while his brother is undergoing treatment at the Riley hospital in Indianapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Butler left Sunday for a vacation in Sarasota, Fla. Jerry Flueckiger, of Berne, reigned as king of Laveland (Wis.) College’s ninth annual winter carnival last week. Flueckiger is a junior at the college in Sheboygan. Martin Kipter, Bluffton route 4, was released from Wells county hospital after receiving treatment

Miss Ellen Welch On Dean's Honor Roll Columbia, Mo. - Miss Ellen Welch, student at Christian College, has been named on the dean’s honor roll for her first semester grades. Requirement for the honor roll is a “B" average in all course work. Presentation of awards was made by the college president and the dean of faculty at an honors assembly Thursday.
