OHIO Continued from page one gone from the sewers and small streams into the rivers, ending one threat but creating possible new ones. The Ohio River, however, was not expected to have a major flood. Ihere have been worse floods on individual Ohio streams but for intensity and widespread damage, . Wednesday’s flood was considered , one of the worst since 1913 when several rivers roared out of their . banks to kill hundreds of persons. There was no money estimate lof the damage but every community counted flooded basements. . wrecked sewers and damaged [ streets and bridges. One county ; road engineer said “every road in i the county is damaged. ” f Snow and freezing temperatures added to the misery today by : making roads slippery and im- [ passable in many areas. Gov? Michael V. DiSalle made . a dramatic visit during the night i to Mount Vernon to promise the ’ stricken city that the state would attempt to obtain federal disaster aid for he community. BILLS FAVORING (Continued from .bags on*) ther than anyone etee sot “right 1 to work.’’ faces bad prospects for his gubernatorial ambitions if “right to work’’ falls, as it is likely to do with repealer backing from more than half a dozen GOP maverick senators. In fact, Parker seems to have been deserted on the issue by GOP State Chairman Robert W. Matthews, who this week sent to all district and county GOP officials a copy of a Wall Street ’ Journal story, describing the disastrous effect of “right to work” on Republican candidates over the . nation. Sells Chief Repealer Les we forget in all this political . hubbub, the law says rather simply that nq man shall be dei nied a job either because he joins a labor union or refuses to do so. Dallas Sells, Indiana AFL-CIO head, probably will lead the repealist witnesses. He already has denounced most features of the House “union reform” bills which have split the huge Democratic majority of that body high, wide and handsome. The House Democrats Wednesday spent many hours in caucus considering a combination of “right to work” repeal and “union reform” legislation and then gave up the ghost temporarily. The House leadership announced that the measure would be reported out of the House Labor Committee today with majority recommendations for passage. Radical Democrats in the lower house are bucking against labor union curtailment in the measure, and party leaders previously were against floor consideration of a divided committee report on the strange combination bill, which has been viewed by some experts as unconstitutional because it combines too many subjects. If you have something to sell or , rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad — They bring results.
