Help Fight TB Buy Christmas Seals Buys Health Bond Beta Sigma Phi council has voted purchase of a $5.00 health bond, officials of the Christmas seal campaign in Adams county announced today. All proceeds from the annual Christmas seal sale are used in the fight on tuberculosis and to provide clinics and otherwise carry on the fight against the "vyhite plague.’’ i Fail Os Agreement On Special Judge Mayor Names Three As Possible Judges No agreement was reached this morning by the Adams county prosecuting attorney, Severin Schurged, and Hubert R. McClenahan, attorney for Francis J. Schmitt, 65, of Decatur, on a special judge to hear the case of driving while under the influence of alcohol filed against Schmitt by the city' police in December. Mayor Robert D. Cole appointed a panel of three possible names to hear the case. They are: Richard J.. Sullivan, Mark A. Morin, and David A. Macklin. All three men are attorneys in Decatur. Both the defense and the state will have two days in which to strike one name, leaving the remaining attorney as the appointed judge in the case. The special judge was asked for by Schmitt and his counsel when they stated to the court that the mayor was biased and prejudiced against the defendant and should not try the case. After the matter was taken under advisement early Monday morning, Mayor Cole gave his ruling on the matter during the afternoon, granting a change of judge.

Suggestions Made On Filing Returns Accurate Records Urged Os Farmers F. V. Smith, Purdue University agricultural economist, reminds Hoosier farmers starting to prepare their income tax reports, the job will be easier if they have complete, accurate records from which to calculate the amount of their taxable income. Farmers who closed tljeir business year last December 31 have until February 15 to pay their federal income tax. Those who end their business year at some other time may file a return and pay their tax before the 15th day of the second month after the close of the business year. The Indiana gross income tax is due . January 31. The gross income tax rate for farmers is threeeighths of one per cent. Smith adds that more detailed information is needed for the federal tax report. He suggests that farmers obtain a copy of the 1959 edition of the Farmers’ Tax Guide from county agricultural extension agents. Generally, 1958 farm records should include the amounts of sales of livestock raised, crops and livestock products, miseeßaneaus-farm income, and sales of purchased livestock and other purchased items. Deductible farm business expenses must be itemized according to the classification on the report form. Smith emphasizes the importance of including all expenses for small items, such as nails, bolts, screws and repair items. Depreciation schedules for all depreciable farm property should be included in the records. The amount of cash wages paid to each agricultural employee during 1958 is needed to prepare social security forms for hired labor. Farmers must pay self-employ-ment (social security’ if their net earnings for the year were S4OO or more. Trade in a gooa town — Decatur.
