Indiana Hands Gophers First Big Ten Loss CHICAGO (UPI) — Michigan. Illinois and Indiana each did its bit to unsnarl the Big Ten basketball race Monday night. Michigan walloped Wisconsin, 84-74, Illinois edged lowa, 103-97, and Indiana rallied in the second half to down Minnesota, 63-59. The net result was to move the Wolverines, Illini and Hoosiers from a five-team swarm for second place into a three-way tie for first, each with 3-1 records. Wisconsin remained winless in four league starts, Minnesota dropped from first place to sixth, and lowa went into a tie for seventh. The Hoosiers get a big chance to move into an undisputed hold on die lead Saturday when they will have the home court advantage against lowa. A win would be the fourth straight for Coach Branch McCrackeh’s ‘ crew against league foes. Neither Illinois nor Michigan is scheduled on Saturday’s round, but Northwestern (2-1), which meets winless Ohio State, could join the league's Upper crust with a victory.
