Medical Society And Wives Meet Tuesday Members of the Adams county medical society and their wives' Tuesday night atended a meeting • ! featuring an illustrated talk on “The Cost of Medical Care." Dr,. Mahlon Miller of Fort Wayne, 12th medical district member of the Blue Shield board of directors was iff charge of the program. He was assisted by L. E. Converse,, physicians relations director of Indiana Blue Shield. The meeting was held at the Fairway Restaurant. "In 1953 of each IJXX) Blue Shield members 137 used their membership. In 1957 t h i s utilization increased to 284 per 1,000 members’" Dr. Miller said. "Blue Shield has been able to take this add£d use Blue Shield membership fees. One reason is that ecomical operation has enabled Blue Shield to cut administrative costs per claim from $2.85 in 1951 to $1.38 in 1957.” "Blue Shield in 1957 returned to members 91 cents of each $1 of membership fees received," Dr. Miller added. Industry Division Will Meet Monday The January luncheon meeting of the Decatur Industrial committee will be held Monday at 12 o’clock noon at the Decatur Youth and Community Center, Fred Kolter, executive secretary for the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, said today. The industrial committee held a meeting recently regarding future programs and has decided that the first meeting of the first quarter will be for open discussion as to what kind of programs the committee wishes to have during the com* ing year. \ “ The object of the club is to foster a friendly spirit of fellowship among the business executives of Decatur, and to encourage the application of scientific approach to the solution of mutual management and personnel problems. The board will welcome suggestions from each member regarding their desires. The suggestions may be submitted either before or during the meeting Monday. Local Pastor's Father Reported Critical The Rev. and Mrs. Stuart Brightwell, of the First Baptist church of Decatur, left this morning for Des Moines, lowa, where Rev. 19 Fro ( m County At Ag Opportunity Day Nineteen Adams county students .attended "Operation brainpower" during ag. opportunity day at Purdue University Saturday as an activity of the Adams county chapter of Purdue ag. alumni. Purdue President F. L. Hovde welcomed the group of 600 to the Purdue campus. Dean E. L. Butz discussed "How college will help you.” Assistant dean D. C. Pfendler explained “College Life At Purdue.” Following personal discussion sessions with Purdue professors, the boys viewed the men’s residence halls and the co-recrea-tional gymnasium. The group heard associate dean V. Freeman at Fowler Hall in the new memorial center. The day was climaxedby attending the PurdueMichigan basketball game. Driver Fined Here On Speeding Charge A trucker arrested by the state police last week on two charges has been cited to appear in court in answer to the charges Saturday afternoon. A motorist appeared Tuesday night for a traffic violation and received a fine after pleading guilty. Leonard Trabel, 51, route 10, Fort Wayne, was arrested by the Indiana state police on U.S. 27 six miles north of Decatur last Friday on two charges. Trabel, a trucker, was arrested for improper registration and driving a semi-truck without the required stop lights. He is scheduled to appear in court Saturday -at 1 o’clock for the trial. James Roger Gaunt, 17, route five, Decatur, arrested January 1 by the city police for speeding, was given a fine of $16.75 after pleading guilty to the charge. Gaunt was charged with driving 50 miles per hour in a posted zone of 30 miles per hour. Webelo Meeting Is Scheduled Jan. 14 A Webel os meeting will be held at the Lincoln grade school auditorium at 7 o'clock Wednesday, Jenuary 14, Marion Robison, said today. All Cub Scouts 10*4 years or older and their parents are urged to attend this meeting. Elkhart Executive Sentenced To Prison SOUTH BEND, Ind. <U P IlClarence A. Bergersoq, 52, Elkhart industrial executive, was sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined $7,500 today on federal income tax evasion charges. Bergerson was sentenced by Judge Robert A. Grant in U.S. District Court here after conviction late last year by a jury on three counts of evading SII,OOO in taxes between 1950 and 1955. Bergerson is president of Thompson Screw Machine Products, Inc., Elkhart. . COURT NEWS Complaint Cases In the case of Lisle Wendel vs Dwight Davis and Paul Davis, the . court found that the defendants unlawfully detained the property of the plaintiff and ordered the plaintiff to recover sarnie from the defendants. The defendant was order? ed to recover from the plaintiff a judgment in the sum of S2OO. On motion of the plaintiff in the case of Trinity Universal Insurance company vs Benjamih Eiting, the defendant was ruled to answer absolute within 10 days of date. A complaint for damages has been filed in the Adams circuit court by Elizabeth K. McMillen against Elmer L. Uhrick and Norma Uhrick. Divorce Cases In the case of Beverly R. Reynolds vs Roger W. Reynolds, the defendant Was ordered to pay into the clerk of the Adams circuit court the sum of S2OO for the benefit of the plaintiff’s attorney, and to pay weekly support amounting to S3O per week for the custody of the minor children. > The court denied an absolute decree of divorce to the plaintiff, Alice Igney from the defendant, Cecil Igney. The defendant was also denied an absolute decree of divorce from the plaintiff upon his cross Complaint for divorce. Estate Cases The last will an<T testament of Gerhart H. Steiner was offered 1 for probate. Administrator’s bond was filed in the penal sum of SIO,OOO. The last will and testament of Esther L. Steiner was offered for probate. Bond filed In the penal sum of $30,000. Letters of administration with the will annexed were ordered issued to Grover W. Neuenschwander. . j 7 , .
