■ Frustrated Mother E ' Sought As Kidnaper Infant Taken From Hospital Nursery . ’ NEW YORK (UPD—Detectives, s.eeking kidnaped infant Lisa Rose • Chionchio inspected hospital mar. temity records today for* the r names of women with histories of mental illness whose children re- ■ cently died at birth. They were operating on ' the K theory that a mother frustrated losing her own child hdd fiV r ducted the tiny infant at random r from a nursery at St. Peter’s Hos- > pital in Brooklyn last ’ Friday r night, less than hours after' . her birth. ‘ Alarms already were out for ; two women resembling the heavy--1 set blonde woman seen leaving the hospital with a “bundle” under- one arm shortly before the i Chionchio infant was discovered . missing. , Sought were Mrs. Betty Jean Benedicto, 31,. of Stockton, Calif., . who was convicted of kidnaping I a baby under similar circum- , stances in 1955: and a New York (Queens County) woman, a recent patient in a mental hospital, who ' was reported missing from her home last Sunday. Neither woman, however, wai 'regarded by police as a genuine suspect in the mystery. I The latest clue uncovered in the i search was a baby’s diaper accompanied by a cryptic note, found Monday in the women’s rest room of a Coney Island subway station. The note, pinned to the diaper and attached to a steam pipe, read: “Please return to St. Peter’s

Dear God, forgive me.” A woman subway rider found the note, written in ink on a page apparently torn from a pocketsized paper-back book. ,A diaper service which supplies • St. Peter's Hospital said the diaper was not theirs. But a police official noted that many mothers leave behind private-owned dia--1 pens which in turn become mixed j in with those of the diaper servi ice. He noted, too, that the kid- . i paper could have changed the , diaper the infant was wearing [when taken from its bassinet. Finding of the diaper touched ’ off an intensive search along the - Coney Island waterfront, but to no avail. • . . J .
