The c o m I n g i reason of Christmas is very evi-i dent here at D.H.S. First of all, the art class ' painted beautiful! C h r istmas scenes on two of’ the windows at <
school . The study hall window is painted to represent the manger scene. The speech class window depicts a chorus of angels. The art class should be congratulated on the fine work. — D. H. S. — The choir is also in the Christmas mood. Last week, they made a tape recording of Christmas carols for the Decatur Chamber of Commerce. This recording will be played over the public address system uptown. - D. H. S. — Last Friday night, the Jackets lost to a tall Central Catholic team, by a score 79 to 60. The season record for the Jackets is now an even 3 wins and 3 losses. The second team also was defeated. — D. H. S. — » Some of the seniors have finally received their pictures. You can sure tell when any senior receives his or her picture because there is always a big gathering around them. Those who have not received theirs yet sure hope they will come in soon. - D. H. here at D.H.S. The cheering block has been given every activity period on Wednesday to have what is called a “pep practice". This way the block will have a better opportunity to learn new yells. These meetings will also feature occasional talks from the coaches, team, cheerleaders, and members of the bloc itself. We hope that this experiment will prove to be successful. — D. H. S. — Word has been received by W. Guy Brown that the next phase in the Rotary speech contest will be held at Fort Wayne at the meeting of the Fort Wayne Rotary club. Judy Rhodes will represent Decatur. We wish her loads of luck. — D. H. S. — In past years different boys from the senior class have been selected as Junior Rotarins. These boys serve for one month. It givfes them a chance to see Rotary in action. Boys who have attended these meetings this year are: Steye Edwards, Ron Feller, and Bill Jacobs, Pat Franklin is Junior Rotarin this month. — D. H. The winning chariot in section I was Barry Ellis, driver, John Cowan, Tom Cravens, Freela Webster, and Dick Morgan In section the winning chariot was Monica Babenhop, driver, Karen Zimmerman, Larry Hill, Tom Sharpe and Naureen Egly. S. — Last Thursday evening, all school reporters were invited to a dinner at the Fairway Restaurant given for them by the Decatur Daily Democrat. Kathy Schultz and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for a wonderful evening. Along with a delicious meal, we school reporters got to know each other better. j — D. H. S. — ’ Another interesting Christmas scene is in the gymnasium entrance showcase. There are flags from Germany, Sweden and America. Below these flags John Paul McAhren drew Christmas cards with Christmas greetings in the three different languages. — D. H. S. — Tuesday night, the annual teachers banquet was held in the gymasium. Victory once i again was shouted last Friday night after the Eagles had defeated Union township of Huntington coun-' ty. The game became very exciting in the last
quarter as the MHS team began “pouring the baskets in," and brought the final score to a 62-60 victory. —M.H.S.— Saturday night’s game was just vice versa. The Eagles led most of the time, but fell behind in the final quarter to be defeated 71-66 by the Roll Rolers. The reserve team came through to another victory to help lift the low spirits after the varsity game. —M.H.S.— The only time the cheering ceases at a MHS ballgame is just before the varsity game. Seven majorettes march onto the floor with the American flag, do a fancy salute to the flag, and then the band plays the National Anthem. This performance always adds an interesting highlight to the night’s exhibition. —M.H.S.— Seniors are now using their extra time during research work for their constitution speeches. From 10 topics, a senior speech student must choose one and write an essay on this particular subject. Eventually these essays must be

memorized and delivered in class with the requirement that they be ten minutes in length. —M.H.S.— An apology and correction Is needed for Richard Bieberich, a freshman at Monmouth High. Richard’s name was unintentionally omitted from the honor roll for the last six weeks. Sorry, Richard, and congratulations. —M.H.S.— A beautifully lighted Christmas tree, decorations in the study hall and classrooms, and mistletoe mysteriously “popping up” here and there are all reminders that Christmas isn’t too far away. A large tree has been set up in the upper hall and trimmed by the art club who has also decorated the study hall with hand made mobiles. A big thanks goes to this club for their efforts as they are really putting the students in the Christmas mood. —M.H.S.— The annual P.T.A. Christmas program will be given Thursday night in the gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The program, given by the grade classes, will tell the Christmas story in song and pantomine. Parents, teachers, relatives, and the public are invited to attend this event, and as tradition goes there will probably be a visit from Santa Claus to climax the evening. —M.H.S.— A little joy and cheer was pit into the hearts of the aged and the ill last Monday night by the F.H.A. girls. These future homemakers sang Christmas carols and gave cookies to the people in the Adams county home, the hospital, and to some homes in this community. This was just one of their many community projects. —M.H.S.— MONROEVILLE HIGH by Judy Ruble

Last week proved to be a week of excitement for the , Cubs. On Wednesday night when they met the New Haven Bulldogs they went down an defeat with a 15 point loss. Lar-I ry Cagnet was’
the h i leading scorer with 15 points. The Cubs rallied Friday night and tasted victory once more when they defeated South Whitley, 5758. They have won 5 and lost 3 so far this season. Wayne Ertel contributed 14 points Friday night while Bob Hart tallied 13 points. Let’s hope they continue to rise in victory. This last week before Christmas vacation the Cubs play two away games. Tuesday evening they play the Leo Lions and Firday evening the Cubs will meet Roanoke. These should prove to be just as exciting as those of last week. —M.H.S.— The seniors are very busy publishing the Christmas edition of the school Cub Crier. After about three weeks of preparing and gathering material they are ready to start publishing. The typists are busy typing the stencils so they can be minmeographed off as finished products. The issues will be out Friday without delay. —M.H.S.— Tuesday of this week is the date which all of the seniors are looking forward to. Why? Because that is when their pictures are due. Some seem very enthused, while others don’t seem to want to see the results. We. all seem to want to be movie stars at a time like this. —M.H.S.— Thursday evening, immediately following the Christmas program, there will be a formal Christmas dance. The girls and fellows are scheduled to wear formals and suits with string ties.. They are expected to attend the dance in their formal wear. This Christmas dance will be held in the assembly instead of in the old gymnasium as usual following the Friday night home basketball games. —M.H.S.— Just recently MHS formed a Literary club under the direction of Virgil Graber, English and speech teacher. It will be combined of outstanding achievement and also training in journalism. Objectives of this club: 1. To encourage MHS students to write voluntarily. 2. —To promote interest among MHS students to write for publica-

All twen-ty-three members and Miss Andrews enjoyed the delicious lunch at five-thirty. The evening was spent in playing games. The class would like to thank Mrs. Hanrick for letting them use their home for the fine party. —P.M.H.S.—■ Last Friday the seniors were m e a>s u r e d for their caps and gowns. The class chose as gown colors, blue for the boys and white for the girls. The tassels on the caps are to be a combination of two colors, blue and white. Now the senior class is beginning to realize that graduation is not far off. —P.M.H.S.The girls sextet composed of Judy Williamson, Betty Myers, Carolyn Luginbill, Beverly Myers, Sharon Bebout and Kay Funk sang at Bethel Brethern Merriman of Ft. Wayne Bible College. —P.M.p.S.School reporters want to thank the Decatur Daily Democrat for the dinner party which we all enjoyed at the Fairway Restaurant last Thursday evening.
