BRIDAL SHOWER IS HELD AT LISLE KNITTLE HOME Miss Suzanne Kuhn was guest of honor at a bridal shower held at the home of Mrs. Lisle Knittie Friday evening. Co-hostsses were Miss Marlene Ohler and Miss Janice Geisler. Miss Kuhn and James A. Smith will exchange nuptial vows in a Christmas eve ceremony. Upon her arrival, the honored guest was presented with a white Christmas corsage. Red, blue and white were used throughout the serving room, including white wedding bells and red and blue trimming hanging in a doorway. Gifts were placed under an umbrella trimmed in red and white. Prizes for the various games were awarded to Mrs. Kenneth Marckel, Mrs. Rodger Frey, and Mrs. Frank Kitson, who in turn presented them to the bride-elect Those attending the party were the Mesdames Carl Kuhn, James Smith, Frank Kitson, Wayne Clouse. Kenneth Marckel, Rodger Frey. Robert Hirschy, Richard Minich, Allen Bower, Ronnie Gephart and Janice Smith, nable to attend were Mrs. Walter Hirschy and Mrs. Jack Bebout. FOUR AREA PEOPLE ATTEND BUDGET LOAN PARTY The annual Budget Loan Corporation Christmas party for officers, employes and board members, as well as special guests, was held Saturday evening at the Hotel Roberts in Muncie. Ernest R. Shireman, vice president. acted as master of ceremonies for the event. A special feature of the party was a musical program presented by the Twelve Little Girls, a choral group under the direction of Donald Myers. Jack H. Payne, secretary-treasurer of the corporation presented employes with five year awards and Victor H. Payer, president, gave his annual address. Following, a Christmas exchange was held. Those attending from Decatur were Mr. and Mrs. William Snyder. Miss Jackie James and Max Ainsworth. MISS PHYLLIS SMITH .IS PARTY CHAIRMAN Miss Phyllis Smith was general chairman for the Christmas party held by members of the young people's class ofthe nion Chapel Evangelical United Brethren church Monday evening. The party was opened with games led by Miss Sue Merriman. Serving am the refreshment committee were the Misses Shirley Workinger and Beverly Stults, and Melvin Fast, Lanny Ross, and Jan Smith. 1 hospital employees I ATTEND YULE PARTY Employes and board members ;of the Adams county memorial hospital enjoyed their annual Christmas party at the American Legion home Monday night. A total of 65 were present. The Legion hall was decorated with a large Christmas tree at one end of the room and each table had centerpieces of candles surrounded by angel’s hair, ornaments, and pine j branches. Christmas candles of varying shapes were given as favors. Following a delicious ham dinner, the i sentimental four, a Fort Wayne quartet including Doug Fritz, tenor, DeWayne Scheie, lead. Dick Hobson, baritone, and Walter Vollmer. bass, sang. Group singing of Christmas carols followed. Santa Claus arrived, and passed out gifts to everyone, after readi ing a special Christmas list from I several of the hospital employes. MUSIC DEPARTMENT MEETS IN REFORMED CHURCH The Music Department of the , Decatur Woman’s club was in charge of the Christinas program j which was held Monday at 8 o’ clock in the Zion Evangelical and I reformed church. A women’s chorus, composed of members of the Music Depart- ! ment, gave the opening collect, after which Mrs. J. Fred Fruchte’ presented an organ Solo. “The Virgin's Slumber Song,” “O Holy Night,” and “Voices’ Os The Sky” were among the selections presented by the chorus which was under the direction of Miss Helen Haubold and accompanied by Mrs. Edger Gerber. Mrs. Harry Dailey a ; piano solo and Mfcs> Ann Kocher, . guest artist, played her vibraharp. I Included in her selections were ‘SiI lent Night.” “Angels We Have Heard On High," and “Dona Nobis ; Paeem.” Miss Kocher is the i daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Kucher, Jr. and a senior at Decatur high school. Following the guest’s appear- | ence, Mrs. Harold Murphy and I Mrs. Glen Borchers presented a I medley of Christmas songs on-the j organ and niano, respectively. ! THIRTY THREE ATTEND I V.F.W. AUXILIARY MEETING Thirty three members attended the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Christmas party which was held recently at the Post home. Brownie troop 377. the troop sponsored tfy the Auxiliary, were guests and presented part of the program. Each of the girls was presented with a gift. Miss Anne Myers gave two after which Mr. and Mrs. Clint Reed presented several musical numbers. Games were played during the evening and prizes awarded to the Merdames Ray Venis, Alva Railing. Nellie Jackson, Theron Dull, Nellie Kruman, Jean Curtis, Ray Kramer, Gene Mitch, Richard Baker, Clarence Hook, Don Reidenbach, Stan Fisher, Leslie Hunter, Fred Pomerer.ke, Kenneth Barker, and Harry Martz. The door prize was won by Mrs. Dull. A lunch was later served, followed with a dollar gift exchange. In charge of the party were Mrs. Kling,, Mrs, Harold Worthman, Mrs. Otto Spiegel, Mrs. George Thomas, Mrs. Kenneth Birch, and Mrs. Edward Rice. Members of the D.A.V. and the auxiliary will have a family Christmas party Friday at the D.A.V. hall beginning at 8 o'clock. All members are invited.

DINNER IS HELD BY SORORITY TUESDAY The Delta Theta Tau sorority held its Christmas Party Tuesday evening. The group met at the Fairway Restaurant for dinner and then went to the home of Miss Rosemary* Spangler for the business meeting. For the dinner, the fables were decorated in keeping with the Christmas season and individual favors of bells, Santa Clauses and angels marked each guest's place. The door prize was won by Mrs. James Newton. Plans were completed for the Good Fellows club. Canned goods will be sorted Monday evening, and the food baskets will be packed and distributed Tuesday. At the close of the meeting dessert was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Kenneth Shannon, Mrs, Jay Markley, Mrs. Melvin Weisman, Miss Rosemary Spangler and Miss Catherine Spangler. MRS. C. E. BELL IS HOSTESS FOR CLUB Mrs. C. E. Bell was hostess to members of the Research club for their Christmas lea. Her home was gaily decorated for the holiday season. Mrs. W. Lowell Harper, president, greeted the members and guests and -read an article concerning the spirit of Christmas. Mrs. Ferris Rower and Mrs. Jerold Lobsiger were guests for the meeting and also presented special music on the organ and piano. Mrs. Stuart Brightwell, following the selections, told of the “Three Joys of Christmas.” The first she explained, was the joy of childern. For this she read “The Night Before Christmas.” The joy of sharing and the joy of worshiping were the other two explanations given by Mrs. Brightwell. Red, and white carnations were used as the centerpiece for the tea table where members and guests were served by Mrs. Gail Baughcan, Mrs. D. B. Erwin, Mrs. William Burner. Mrs. B. G. Thomas, Mrs. O. H Haubold, Mrs. Harper, and Mrs. Bell. ANNUAL SCHOOL DINNER HELD IN GYMNASIUM Two hundred teachers, custodians, administrators and guests of the Decatur public schools met in the Decatur high school gymnasium Tuesday evening for the annual school board’s Christmas dinner. W. Guy Brown, superintendant of schools for the city of Decatur, opened the evening by welcoming the guests and giving the invocation. The turkey dinner, prepared by Mrs. Roberta Chronister and the home economics class of the high school, wasthen served. Following the meal. Brown introduced some of the special

guests, and then turned the meeting over to Hubert Zerkel, Jr., principal of the Northwest elementary school, for the evening's program. Three Christmas carols, “Joy to the World," “I Heard the Bells," and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” were sung by the group, and Zjrkel then introduced the Rev. Gerald Gerig for the evening address. Rev. Gerig, pastor of the Decatur Missionary church, spoke on the topic, “What do you Want for Christmas?” Included in the talk were “the four points needed by all people for a full, meaningful Christmas; real Christmas advertising—by Christian people proud and glad of the news of the birth of Christ, real Christ music—sung for the joy of the sea s on; real Christmas spirit—b as e d on the presence of Christ in each home as Christmas celebrate the birthday of the Saviour; and real return of Christ to Christmas—not just as a seasonal thing, but through the concern and conviction of all Christians to put Christ uppermost in their hearts and minds.” ■
Zerkel then took over the meeting again and the group sang “Silent Night," after which Rev. Gerig gave the benediction. ALL DAY MEETING IS HELD BY RIIRAL CLUB Acting as co-hostesses for the all day meeting of the members of the Root Township Home Demonstration club members who met Tuesday were Mrs. Sherman Kunkel. Mrs. Al Schneider, and Mrs. Robert Johnson. A short business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Florence Susdorf at which time devotions, taken from Acts Three, were read by Mrs. Dale Moses. History of the song of the month was given by Mrs. Fred Kunkel, after which the club joined in singing "Joy To The World.” Club members voted to donate $5 to the Good after which Miss Lois Folk used a candlelight service to install „ the officers for the coming year. After dinner was served, a reading was given by Mrs. Omer Merriman, as well as Mrs. Adolph Weidler. Mrs. Dale Moses told of decorations around foreign Christmas trees and “after dinner customs." A group of songs was then presented by Mrs. R. N. Rice and Mrs. Fred Kunkle. An exchange of gifts was held, at which time Mrs. John Magley was awarded the door prize.
