Mental Patients To Receive Many Gifts Adams County Aids In Hospital Gifts Thanks to the generosity of citizens of Adams county and nine other eastern Indiana counties, each of the approximately 1,700 patients at Richmond state hospital will receive a minimum of two gifts this Christmas. Mrs. James Kocher, Jr., served as chairman for this area. The Yuletide remembrances will be distributed by “Santa Claus’’ and various assistants in the annual Christmas parties to be staged at the institution Sunday afternoon. Harvey Therrien, who coordinated the program for the hospital, said that gifts this year were of especially high quality, “beautifully and thoughtfully wrapped.” Many hours of work have been put in by staff members and wives of physicians at the state hospital who have manned the “Christmaa Room” where gifts are allocated for various wards. These workers have included Mrs. Jefferson Klepfer, Mrs. L. A. Laird, Mrs. G. A. Herring, Mrs. Haze 1 Charlton, Miss Pauline Hecht, Miss Marsha Manley, Miss Iris Wilson, Miss Georgia Christie, and Mrs. Arthur Engelbrecht, director of volunteers. Attendants will complete their “shopping" for patients on their wards this week. Some volunteer workers will be busy this week making special request purchases from cash donations which have been given by the public. Approximately $350 was contributed through the local mental health office for the purpose. It wist be used to buy canteen books and special items. Matador Missiles „ For Korean Defense Boost Defenses To Counteract Reds SEOUL, Korea <UPD — The United Nations Command announced today that Matador missiles capable of carrying atomic warheads have been brought into South Korea to boost its defenses against a huge Communist military build-up in North Korea. The United Nations Command said introduction of the missiles was “in accordance with the spirit and intent of the UNC position stated at the 75th MAC (Military Armistice Commission) on June 27, 1957.” At that meeting, the UNC charged that the Communists had built up military capability “vastly superior to that which they possessed when the armistice agreement was signed.” ' . This Red buildup, the UNC charged, seriously upset the relative military balance which the armistice agreement was intended to preserve, “since the UNC had scrupulously observed the armistice terms prohibiting such buildup.” The UNC saicjl “it considered itself entitled to be relieved of corresponding obligations’’ of the agreement “until the relative military balance has been restored and the Communists, by their actions, have demonstrated that willingness to comply.” If yov nave something to sell or rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad — They bring results
