CHRISTMAS DINNER IS HELD RECENTLY The Welcome Wagon club met at thq Fairway for the(r Christmas dinner meeting. The tables .were beautifully decorated and each place was marked with a small Christmas corsage. New officers elected for the coming year are: Mrs. Paul Bevelhimer, president; Mrs. Ralph Smith, Jr., vice president; Mrs. Harold Messick, secretary, and Mrs. Glenn McCammon, treasurer. Members are asked to notice that a container has been placed in the Miller-Jones shoe store for any toys they wish to contribute to the needy. These contributions are badly needed and will be greatly appreciated. SORORITY CHAPTERS MEET WEDNESDAY NIGHT Xi Alpha lota and Epsilon Sigma chapters of Beta Sigma Phi sorority combined for their annual Christmas party, held Wednesday evening at the Preble restaurant. A large tree decorated the room and miniature colored trees and a corsage for each guest decorated the table. Folowing a delicious turkey dinner, a social hour was enjoyed. The door prize was won by Ida Holthouse, after which Betty Faurote entertained with several piano selections.

PSI IOTA XI COMPLETES PLANS FOR ANNUAL DANCE The Sno-Ball dance, sponsored annually by Psi lota Xi sorority, and to be held Saturday, December 27. at the Decatur Moose lodge, was the main topic of discussion at the regular business meeting of the sorority Tuesday evening. Mrs. Paul Moore presided. Tickets for the holiday affair may be purchased from any member of the sorority or at the door | the night of the dance. The Key- | noters will furnish the music. • Various reports were also given by the officers, after which the group voted to donate $25 to the Good Fellows club and to purchase an Adams county TB health bond. MRS. MELVIN McBARNES ENTERTAINS CLUB MEMBERS Mrs. Melvin Mcßarnes entertained seventeen members and four guests of the Profit and Pleasure Home Demonstration club with a pot-luck supper and Christ- , mas party recently. Mrs. William ' Kohne opened the meeting by [ leading the group in reciting the ’ club commandments. Mrs. John ! Arnold gave the history of the 1 j song, “Joy to the World,” after which it was sung by the group; ' Members answered roll call with ' “how I keep the spirit of Christ- ' njas.” ! For the special feature this J month, Mrs. Ralph Bluhm, Mrs. 1 Clarence Dick, Mrs. Clifford Lan- ' dis and Mrs. Harvey Smith gave 1 “The Nativity,” consisting of the J thoughts of Mary, Joseph, the shepherd and the innkeeper concerning the happenings of Jesus' birth the day after it happened. Mrs. Ralph Bluhm then installed the following new officers; president, Mrfe. Harvey Smith; vice president. Mrs. Ralph Bluhm; secretary, Mrs. Clarence Dick; treasurer. Mrs. Leonard Schwal--1 ler; publicity, Mrs. Chester Ha- - begger; citizenship, Mrs. Roman j Brito; health and safety, Mrs. - John Arnold; song leader, Mrs. i Clifford Landis;, leaders, Mrs. Henry Heiman and Mrs. Lucy ‘ Schnepp; alternate leaders, Mrs. Kenneth Sanders and> Mrs. William Kohne. During the social hour, a gift exchange and games were enjoyed. Mrs. John Arnold won the door prize. Guests at the meeting were Mrs. Leroy Nussbaum, Mrs. Elroy Nussbaum, Mrs. Andy Miller and Mrs. Wayne Frauhiger. The hostes next month will be Mrs. Oscar Miller.

ZION LUTHERAN ADULT CLUB MEETS The Zion Lutheran Adult club held its annual Christmas partar Sunday evening at the parish hall. A carry-in dinner was served at attractively decorated tables in keeping with the holiday theme. Pine branches ■ and lighted tapers were arranged on the long tables,! with each place marked with an apple, donated by Otto Bieberich. Kenneth Schnepf then introduced Peter Friederici, exchange student from Germany, who gave an interesting talk on the customs and his life there. He stated that 80 percent of the German people now live in West Germany, many having fled there from East Germany. The following offices were then elected; president, Kenneth Schnepf; vice president, Wilburt Steele; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Albert Selking. The group later enjoyed singing Christmas carols, led by Norman Witte. The gift exchange was then held. BPW HAS ANNUAL I CHRISTMAS SUPPER The home of the Misses Mary Catherine and Rosemary Spangler was the scene of the annual ■ Christmas meeting of the Decatur 1 Business and Professional Women's club, Wednesday night. ' Twenty-one members attended. Each of the entertaining rooms'

was festive with colorful and clever Christmas decorations. Table decorations centered around the theme. “Twelve Days Before Christmas,” with the song printed on place mats and napkins. ’ Individual favors consisted ofj sparkling pixies. Following the 6:30 buffet dinner,! served by officers of the club, members gathered around the lighted Christmas tree and sang; carols. This portion of the program closed with a Christmas story. "The Legend of the Black Madonna,” read by Mrs. John F. Rosier. . i Snowman bunco was played with prizes being won by Mrs. Norman Guard and Miss Matilda Sellemey-i cr. A gift exchange followed with members donating equally to’ the Good Fellows fund. Dessert and Goffe were served, at the close of the evening. The Merry Matrons home demonstration club will meet Tuesday evening vat 7:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Walter Thieme, with Hrs’, Afthur Krueckeberg as the assisting hostess. This will be the annual Christmas party. The Academy of Friendship will meet at the Moose home Monday evening at 6 o’clock for their annual pot-luck supper and fifcy-cent gift exchange. Secret pals will also be revealed. The Pleasant Mills W.S.C.S. will . have its Christmas party Wednes- . day evening at 7:30 o'clock at the . home of Mrs. Ned Ray, Monroe. A 50-cent gift exchange will be held. Members not having transportation are requested to meet at the R. H. Everett store by 6:45. Members of the ladies auxiliary of the V.F.W. will have their Christmas party and one dollar gift exchange Monday evening at 8 o’clock.

MRS. JESSE RICE ENTERTAINS CLUB The Christmas meeting of the Ladies Shakespeare club was held Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Jfesse Rice. The home was beautifully decorated with Christmas greens, candles and tree. Mrs. George Buckley, president, led the group in giving the club collect. The club voted to buy the annual health bond and a report was made regarding the Indian affairs committee who are to report at the January meeting: Mrs. C. E. Peterson, chairman, Mrs. Jesse Rice, and Mrs. Burt Townsend. The book and social committee for next year was also appointed: Mrs. Earl Adams, Mrs. C. Doyle Collier, Miss Bertha Heller, Mrs. R. C. Hersh, Mrs. L. G. Pettibone. Mrs. Arthur Suttles, Mrs. Charles Teeple and Mrs. John Tyndall. Eighteen members answered roll call by telling of the earliest or most memorable Christmas they could remember. This gave the real Christmas spirit as each one recalled some interesting story. Miss Frances Dugan then presented a clever modern story of Christmas, written by E. H. Jordan, entitled "A Date for the Baby Sitter.” This told the story of how an entire modern family worked together to give a happy New Year’s eve to their baby sitter. Following the program the social committee, consisting of Mrs. Jesse Rice. Miss Frances Dugan, Mrs. Charles Dugan, Miss Elizabeth Peterson. Mrs. C. E. Peterson. Mrs. George Buckley and Mrs. Weldon Soldner, served delicious refreshments which carried out the Christmas motive.

Members of the city police department and their wives enjoyed their annual Christmas dinner Monday evening at the Fairway. Mr. and Mrs. L. E Archbold were guests of the Indiana Extension workers at their annual banqnuet and conference Wednesday in Lafayette. All retired Indiana extension workers were invited. Mrs. John McConnell, the former Flossie Steiner, has returned home from a hospital at Columbus, 0., where she has been undergoing treatment for heart trouble for several weks. Lawrence Diehl Ta Decatur; Hospital Lawrence Diehl, 70, route two, Geneva, will transferred to the Adams county memorial hospital Friday from the memorial hospital in Fort Wayne, where he has been confined since shortly after an accident* that occurred near Peru October 19. Mrs. Merle Affolder, a daughter, said today. Mr. Diehl was listed in critical condition for several days following the edciclpnt that occurred at the junction of state roads 18 and 19 eight miles north of Peru. His condition is reported as slightly improved, although his right side still is paralyzed. Mrs. Diehl,' 74. also injured in the two-car collision, was a patient at the Parkview hospital for several days. Upon her release she has been living with a son in Fort Wayne. When Mr. Diehl is moved to Decatur, she will stay with sheriff and Mrs. Affolder.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Stults Os Warner Robins, Ga., are parents of a baby girl, Marcia Ruth, born December 4. She weighed 7 pounds. Mrs. Harry Stults of this city is the maternal grandmother. At the Adams county tanemorial hospital: Melvin and Josephine Schwartz Schwartz of route 1. Berne, are parents of a six pound, nine ounce girl born at 1:33 p. m. Wednesday. A three pound, eight ounce boy was born to Dr. Arthur and Victoria Mitchel Girod of 1004 West Monroe street, at 8:33 p. m. Wednesday. At 10:14 o'clock Wednesday evening, David and Alice Geels Kline of Monroeville, became parents of a six pound, 11 ounce girl. This morning at 12:25 o’clock, Ronald and Beverly Kay Patrick Morton of 416 Stratton Way, became parents of a seven pound, 12*4 ounce boy.
