Gay Tyroliers Cheer Chilled 'Music Lovers
By Mirlene Morin Winter chills were dispelled for members of the -Adams county civic music association last night by the warmth and gaity of a group from the Tyrolian Alps of Austria. The Gay Tyroliers. Toni Praxmair's singers and from Kitzbuhel, Austria, sang, danced and laughed their way into the hearts of a delighted audience at the Decatur Youth and Community Centet in the second of the 1958-59 series of civic music concerts. Dressed in the colorful costumes of the Alpine regions, they presented a charming picture of the life of their people through the dances and music of the various seasons of the year. Fortunate, indeed were those who understood the language of the Tyroliers. It was enchanting enough for the ones who could not follow the words of the many folk songs but it must have been doubly enjoyable for those who could. The program opened with a group of songs, dances and instrumental music depicting spring in the mountains. The rhythmic agility of the male dancers was especially exciting to watch. However, one got the distinct impression that it would have been far more fun to be participating instead of just watching. Included in the first group as well in the other two showing summer and autumn l|fe were several folk songs presented by a group of very charming voices. Also interesting were the instrumental solos on the “singing saw.” the zither and the Tyrolian version of the xylophone which were scattered throughout the evening’s program. , Especially well-received by the listeners were the vocal solos of Marianne Jilg, one of the girls in the troupe. Her exceedingly rich and sweet voice was most pleasant and every member of the audience was thrilled with her yodeling songs. A particularly happy portion of the program was the autumn group which featured the highlights of a mountain wedding. One of the most outstanding characteristics of last night's concert was the obvious enjoyment of the entertainers. It is probably safe to say that no group of artists ever had more fun presenting a program as this group which specializes in presenting the happiness of their native life. Anton Praxmair, Sr., the director

of the group, is the owner of a famous resort inn at Kitzbuhel. AU the members of his troupe are nonprofessional although theirs is a highly developed talent. Among the group are a bank clerk, a woodcarver, a photographer, a tailor, a ski instructor and a mountain guide. Two daughters and a son of Praxmair are also members of the group. They are currently on their third tour of the United States. And they no doubt are delighting audiences no matter where they go. The next concert of the series will be Jan. 22, 1959, when local music lovers wil be treated to a program by Stan Freeman, one of America's top pianists, and an outstanding humorist. > Adams Central's King, Queen Are Crowned Tuesday While a girl’s quartet composed of Karen Nussbaum, Nancy Raudenbush, Onalee Barkley and Carolyn Yake, accompanied by Doveanna Nussbaum, sang "Sweetheart of Central High,” Tom Hyerly, newly chosen king of Adams Central high school, crowned Miss Carol Haggard as the €en-Trails queen for 19581959. Hyerly, a senior and vice president of his class, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hyerly. Miss Haggard is the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs. Harvey Haggard of route 2 and is treasurer of the senior class. Both of the royalty are active in sports, Carol being a cheer leader for two years, and Tom a starter on the basketball team. The overhead lights dimmed, and a spotlight fell on little Miss Barbara Miller, daughter of Coach and Mrs. Amzie Miller, who acted as flower girl for the queen, and Master Larry Zurcher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Zurcher and crown bearer, who proceeded the candidates across the gym floor to the stage. The king and queen winners were not announced until all candidates had been seated on the stage. Miss Haggard was escorted to the poinsetta decked stage by Max Egley. Daye Isch ushered Miss Jeannie Smith and Miss Mary Dick was escorted by Larry Foreman. Miss Arleen Zimmerman and Miss Wanda Neuenschwander were escorted by Alan Habegger and Tom Hyerly, respectively. Kenneth Watkins, announcer, revealed the identity of the king before the near capacity audience who later saw the five king candidates play one of their most oustanding games of the season in defeating the Berne Bears. Tom then placed the crown on Miss Haggard’s head. Members of the student body selected the ten finalists in voting which took place a week ago and later selected their choice for king and queen, a secret which is carefully guarded until the actual crowning.
