Adams Central high school with the class of 1957 and is employed in the office of the Kresge Warehouse in Fort Wayne. Her fiance graduated from Berne French high school and is employed by the Berne Furniture Company. KATHLEEN FLEMING SURPRISED AT SHOWER Miss Kathleen Fleming was pleasantly surprised at a bridal shower which was given by Miss Dodie Kohne and Miss Carol Heller at the home of Jerome Kohne Monday. The guest of honor will become the bride of Paul Lee Bergdall Saturday in the Zion Lutheran church. A corsage of pink carnations was presented to Miss Flefning upon her arrival. Bride’s bingo was played during the evening and the winners in turn presented their prizes to the honored guest. ROSE GARDEN CLUB MEETS TUESDAY NOON The Rose Garden club members met Tuesday at 12:30 o’clock for a lucheon at the Monroe Methodist church. Mrs. Frank Crist offered prayer before the luncheon, which ■ was served by ladies of the church. Roll call was answered by members t e 1 i n g of "my Christmas wish." Twenty three women and four guests were present. Minutes of the November meeting were read by Mrs. Grover Levy, secretary, and approved by the group. Mrs. Bert Haley and Mrs. Ralph E. Roop were in charge of the entertainment. The group sang “Joy To the World." and other Christmas carols, after which Mrs. John Floyd and Mrs. Roop gave read-j ings concerning Christmas. Mrs. Haley read “The Legend of the Christmas Rose.” A gift exchange was held following the singing of “Jingle Bells.” Mrs. Walter Butcher was awarded the door prize. The next meeting will be held January 13 at the home of Mrs. Clarence Smitley. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will have their pot luck supper at 6 o’clock instead of 8 o’clock as was previously stated. The supper will be held at the Legion home Friday. Members of the Decatur Garden club will meet Tuesday at 7:30 o’ clock with Mrs. Homer Lower for a Christmas party and 50-cent gift exchange. Mt. Tabor Women's Society for Christian Service members will meet with Mrs. Cora Drake Friday at 7:30 o’clock.

Thursday, from 7 until 7:,30 o’ clock members of the Northwest p.T.A. are invited to the open house at the school. At 7:30 o'clock, school pupils will present a Christmas program. Unit 3 members of the Women’s Society for World Service of the Bethany Evangelical United church, will meet at the Francis Ellsworth home Thursday at 2 o’clock. A Christmas party will be held i by members of the V.F.W. auxiliary Monday at 8 o’clock at the post home. There will be a dollar gift exchange. Nine Seniors Take Achievement Tests < Complete Test For 4 College Entrance '“Nine seniors from Decatur high school took achievement tests Saturday in Fort Wayne for the college entrance examination board. Many colleges throughout the country reguire the four-hour testing before the college applicants are accepted as students. One senior. Terry Marbach. took the final test for the merit scholarship awards that will be given to seniors all over the nation next year. A former student, Phillis Schmidt, daughter of The Rev and Mrs. Edgar Schmidt, now living in Lincoln, Neb., was also entitled to take the merit scholarship test. I Miss Schmidt and Marbach were two students from Decatur receiving high marks during the testing conducted last spring. The achievement tests given to the seniors Saturday are required by many of the nation’s coleges before the students are accepted. The students are not told of the I ratings given to them on the testing, but three colleges of their choice are given the scores to be s considered along with their applications. The students taking the final testing for the merit scholarships will know the outcome of their individual scores in March. The losers will be notified sometime in May. To Present Concert At Church Sunday Immanuel Lutheran Concert On Sunday The choir of Immanuel Lutheran church, Union township, will present d concert of sacred music Sunday evening at 7:30 p. m. at the church. The concert is one of the services observing the 100th anniversary of the congregation which was founded December 14, 1858. Hymns of praise as well as Christmas music will be featured. | The program includes "Praise to the Lord the Almighty," “O Jesu Mild” and “Now Thank We All Our God” by J. S. Bach; “A Faithful Shepherd is My Lord” by Naegli Stein; “God is Our Refuge and Our Strength” by Lundquist; “God So Loved the Wolrd” by Stainer; “Beautiful Savior” by F. M. Christiansen; “O Come, Emmanuel”, a Plain-song melody; “While by Our Sleeping Flock We Lay” by Jungst; “Angels We Have Heard on High”, an old French melody; “Away in a Manger”, by LutherMueller: “Praise God the Lord Ye Sons of Men” by Freundt; “Open Our Eyes” by Macfarlane; “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by Lutkin; and the “HaHelujah Chorus” by Handel. Mrs. Robert Huebner serves as organist. The public is invited to attend. A free will offering will be taken. Bertsch President Os Choral Society William Bertsch. Jr., son of Mr. 'and Mrs. William H. Bertsch, of route four, Decatur, is president of the choral society at Mission House Theological Seminary. Plyi mouth. Wis., it was learned here today. Bertsch is a 1952 graduate of Berne-French high school and will graduate from the Mission House in June. The seminary is an institution of the Evangelical and Reformed church. The 26-voice seminary choir is planning a series of Lenten cqn-, certs in northern Indiana and Ohio, according to Bertsch. Dates for the tour are February 28 through March 8. Each concert will be conducted as a worship service, and will have its theme “the need for young men and women in fulltime church vocations.” A television appearance is scheduled for the choir January 18. The choir will sing as part of a worship service to be presented by the seminary over a j Milwaukee TV station. Ball State Course Delayed By Weather The first class of the second course to be taught this year in Decatur as an extension course! from Ball State Teachers college was cancelled Monday night be-1 cause of the weather. W. Guy Brown, superintendent; of Decatur schools, reported thati the class will meet next Monday: at 6 p. m. as scheduled, and those wishing to enroll should attend then. Both undergraduate and graduate levet credit will be granted. Farm Land Values Continue Increase LAFAYETTE, Ind. <UPD — Indiana farm land values continued their upward trend to an all-time high average of $242 an acre as of Nov. 1. state-federal farm statisticfans reported today. The average was $229 a year ago and $217 in 1956. G. Remy Bierly, judge-elect of the appellate court, and local attorney. attended the state Chamber of Commerce annual meeting held in Indianapolis Tuesday.
