Three Accidents Are Reported In County Blame Bad Weather Far Three Wrecks Considerable damage was estimated by investigating officers in three accidents reported to the Adams county sheriff's department due to weather conditions. One accident occurring at 5 a.m. Monday, three miles north of Decatur on U. S. 27 involved two autos. Cars driven by Victor Gephart, 47, Decatur, and Harley B. Gunder, 53, Decatur, collided when a semitruck passed both of the vehicles, theaded north, throwing a fine spray |of snow on both vehicles causing , I Gunder to slow his auto, and the Gephart auto to collide with the rear of the Gunder car. Damage 'was estimated at $l5O to the Gunder car and $25 to the Gephart veihicle. p An accident occuring at 1:15 p.m. lon U. S. 27 Monday invplved one lauto. p The car driven by Sondra Ann Schlickman, 19, Willshire, 0., skidJded off the main highway into a (tree, a mail box, a gate and came Ito rest against a telephone pole. The auto skidded 110 feet before coming to rest. The driver stated that as she attempted to slow the i auto down without using the brakes, the car went into a skid and out of control. Damage to the auto was given at $550 and SSO damages was caused to the property owned by Menno L. Schwartz. An accident occurring early today at 1:15 air.. one mile west of Decatur cn L S. 224, involved a car and p trunk. The driver of the truck, Robert Allen Myer', 31, Kansas City, Kan. stated to the officers that he had injured his hand earlier and that it had made him sick to his stomach while driving on U. S. 224. As he- stopped his truck on the highway in an attempt to get out of the cab, a car driven by Doyle Lee Egley, 21, Decatur, struck the ■ truck. Both vehicles were moved from the scene of the impact upon •the arrival of the officers. Damage to the Egley auto was estimated at $125 and only $5 to the truck was given by the investigating officers. Fined, Sentenced On intoxication Charge A local resident was given a 30day jail sentence and a fine today in mayor's court following his hearing of public intoxication before Mayor Robert D. Cole. Ira Carpenter, 56',' Decatur, was arrested by the city police department at 2 a.m. today for public intoxication. He was taken to the Adams county jail pending hearing in court this forenoon. A fine of sl6 and the 30-day sentence at the Adams county jail was imposed after Carpenter pleaded guilty to the charge.
