He told a news conference the United States not only will defend the city itself against Communist attack blit will safeguard the city’s lifelines to the West. Hodes said a Communist blockade of the city will be considered an attack upon the United StatesAnother pledge came from President Eisenhower Sunday after a conference in Augusta, Ga., with Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. He said the United States would enter into no arrangement which would abandon the responsibilities of the Big Three toward the freedom and security of West Berliners. (71 That on November 25 in a telephone conversation Judge Hinkle indicated to Anderson that the trial would be a review of the board’s action, and that no new evidence could be admitted. Anderson, according to the statement, replied that this was contrary to an Indiana supreme court ruling, and the judge replied that he didn’t think much of the supreme court’s ruling in the case mentioned. Death charged that as a result of the conversations, the facts show that Judge Hinkle is biased in the case, and by his indication that no evidence de nova can be admitted, is acting contrary to law and court dbcisiohis. This, Death continues, 'would make it wholly impossible for him to obtain a fair trial before Judge Hinkle. The facts were available only 48 hours before the filing of the affidavit sot change of judge, and could not have been filed within the ordinary limits of requests for a change of judge. Origin of Case The case originally started more than a year ago, with Death’s arrest following an accident in front of the Standard Market. The police officer who investigated, arrested Death for public intoxication after his chr hit a parked car. Death originally pleaded guilty, but later had the case dismissed from circuit court, and it was never refiled by the prosecuting attorney. At the same time the board of Works called Death in, and after a hearing on charges of conduct unbecoming a police officer, absense without official leave, and conviction of a public offense, discharged Death from the police force. Death then filed a case against the city, asking for a review of the board action, and reinstatement as McCulloch CHAINSAWS START AS LOW AS W *Sy ■ i vni i r -° *- i j 1 Terms up to 18 Months KLENKS L PHONE 3-2158
