It is said that two people have the right to use the word we. A writer of editorials and a man with a tapeworm. The Christmas shopping season is here, and a word to the wise is sufficient. Besides being a season of beauty and reverence, it is also a season for con men and misrepresented merchandise. Why some people prey on the honesty and affections of other people is impossible to understand, but, nevertheless, they do. One of the best protections you have of getting a gift your friehds and loved ones will appreciate and be able to use are the merchants of Decatur. These men are your neighbors, and are in business permanently, for their livelihood. They know that quality products make good customers. Make sure your gifts convey a true Christmas spirit by buying from your dependable Decatur merchants. It is disappointing to hear that the Civil War was America’s tragedy, and Should be forgotten. If any war can be considered useful, it would be the Civil War. While there was an apalling loss of life, those lives were lost securing a united America. Had America been divided, it is probable that both segments would have been swallowed up by foreign nations—and where would the world be today without the

power and influence of the United States? Granted, there are still two distinct segments in our country resulting from the war, but these segments have been in our nation ever since it was founded, and due to the extreme differences in climate and social conditions, will probably always be there. Actually, the two segments act as counter-balances for our country, keeping either from gojng overboard. America has a tragedy from this era, but it is not the Civil War, it is the reconstruction period that followed. We don’t want to leave without paying a little tribute to the ladies. Housewives, God bless ’em, have to put up with two of the worst enigmas on earth, husbands and boredom. Not much can be said for the former, but the second is evident. Day after day, it's get the kids to school, clean the house, fix the meals, do the •wash and then put the kids to bed. Sometimes it is probably hard to see where it is leading, but the rewards are there: first, in the satisfaction of a job well done, and second, in the achievements of those children they worked so hard to train. It’s hard work, long hours and low wages, but there’s the security of a three-way contract, and, thanks to the housewives of the world, that contract usually works out fine.

Stewardesses Maintain Strike There also was no letup in the stewardesses' strike against Lake Central Airlines, a Midwest feeder route. The hostesses walked through four inches of snow in picket lines at Indianapolis Friday, but pilots continued to cross the lines and maintained normal service. A spokesman for the stewardesses, meanwhile, charged v that Lake Central had exhausted its fuel supplies and now was operating with fuel loaned by IVans World Airlines.
