the words "ridiculous and completely unrealistic” to describe Stassen's action. Labor Secretary James P, Mitchell went a step further by giving Nixon an outright endorsement for the GOP presidential nomination. He said Stassen’s failure to put Nixon on his presidential list reflected the former Minnesota governor's "unsuccessful vendetta” against the vice president in 1956. • Declaring Nixon had “time and I again demonstrated the highest qualifications for the presidency,” Mitchell added: "It is my conviction that Richard M. Nixon ought to be and will be the next president of the United States.” Two years ago Stassen led a “stop Nixon” movement right up
to the Republican convention, when President Eisenhower called a halt to it. Stassen then seconded Nixon’s renomination for the vice presidency. Stassen, the President's former disarmament adviser who failed to win the Republican gubernatorial nomination in Pennsylvania , this year, conferred with Eisenhower Wednesday-aon ways of rebuilding the Republican Party. When he talked to newsmen after the conference Stassen listed Gov-elect Nelson A. Rockefeller of New York and three others as Republicans who could lead the GOP to victory in 1960. The others were U.N. AmbasSadoir Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., Treasury Secretary Robert B. Anderson and Interior Secretary Fred A. Seaton. Asked why he omitted Nixcrn, he said: "I think this election speaks for itself in this regard.” Presidential Press Secretary James C. Hagerty declined comment on Stassen’s remarks other than to say Stassen was speaking for himself, not the President. BLUFFTON (Continued from page one~> Explorer Program A council-wide program to “seal” the new explorer scout program will be launched this ; month, and will cover every high 1 ‘ school in Adams, Wells, and Jay 1 i counties, John G. Carlson, south district executive, explained to one of the largest groups ever to attend a district meeting. The program is for young adults only, and will operate under a separate , system within scouting. Under the new program, he added. Cub scouting will be for boys, scouting will be for youth, and exploring for young! adults, who will govern their own program. Sunday, Nov. 23, the south district will hdld an important training session, starting at 1:30 p. m. in the Geneva high school. Every district committeeman, institutional representative, executive board member, commissioner staff member, and anyone who will be associated with the new j exploring program should attend, j

The entire program will be explained in an afternoon-evening session. Moser Honored Two district scouters were proposed for the scouters key, which is awarded to those who have been active in scouting for three or more years, and have completed certain qualifying steps. Richard Moser, of Geneva, the chairman of the committee for Boy Scout troop 69, has been approved by the district for the key award, which will be made at the annual district meeting in Decatur Dec. 2. Ward L. Mason, of Bluffton, an advisor, is the other candidate for the award. A goal of 200 from the district at Big island this summer was set by the group: the Klondike derby will be run Jan. 10, and operation deepfreeze will be Jan. 24-25. Two important jobs for all scouters are to get scooting to every boy eligible, instead of the one in five now participating, and to offer the program possible for youths, Carlson concluded. Edinburg Town Board Votes Daylight Time EDINBURG, Ind. lUPI) — Residents of this southern Johnson County town will switch from “slow" to “fast” time Sunday on the basis of a resolution adopted by the town board in response to a survey showing the majority of townspeople want to be on the same time as Indianapolis and Franklin. % Former Tipton Court Judge Dies Wednesday TIPTON, Ind.
