Need Another Room? Enclose A Breezeway A breezeway, which usually is just a simple roof between garage and residence, has a great potential for conversion into an all-pur-pose room. Situated apart from the home, yet conveniently close, the breezeway can readily be transformed into a place for television viewing, for example, where programs won’t dominate the chief living quarters and cause dissension among non-viewers. A converted breezeway, too, is an ideal place for hign school youngsters to entertain their guests. There they’ll have the “apartness” they want, and the other members of the family won’t i be disturbed by music, dancing and laughter. Relatively inexpensive, the transformation of a breezeway in- - to a room-ea-n be accomplished-by. the home handyman using some of i the fine materials available to him at his lumber yard. i For example, an excellent way of enclosing the ends of the breezeway is to install window

walls. That leaves just two walls to convert from exterior to interior finish. Recommended by many who have used them are Masonite Walnut panels, as they are fac-tory-grained and therefore require only waxing or the application of a clear sealer such as shellac or I varnish after their installation. Their vertical grooves serve to punctuate the woodgrain pattern and to hide the small-headed nails used at the joints to fasten them. Four-foot widths make it a I cinch for the handyman to put them up; yet their grooves break j up the grained pattern effectively, I i giving a plank effect. Acoustical tiles for the ceiling and a resilient floor covering over the concrete slab are other major features of such a handyman modernization. Others, which may require professional help, are heating and lighting. Windowless Bathrooms Are Becoming Popular More bathrooms are going into interior areas of the house, says “Today's Home” Magazine. It declares that an inside bath costs less, cuts down on halls, reduces the house perimeter with consequent reduction in building' and maintenance expense, and frees outside walls for living area. It also is easier to heat. Trade in a good town — Decatur.

New Peg-Board Shows Versatility i Throughout Home One of the easiest ways to transform wasted space around the home into a decorative and functional area is to install the new plastic-finished Marlite Peg- ■ Board paneling. This predecorated hardboard material features the familiar “peg-board” pattern of rows of holes spaced one inch apart, and it is available at lumber yards- in pastel colors, woodgrains and marble natterns. Peg-Board panels are being used as accent walls in living rooms, pin-up walls in bedrooms and recreation rooms, room dividers, backs of shadow-boxes for displaying art objects or craftsmanship, wall plaques, headboards for Hollywood beds, attractive sliding doors in cabinets and built-in furniture; and closet and cabinet linings. This predecorated hardboard is also used extensively in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry centers as an easy-to-clean background for accessories. Home handymen can install the four-foot-wide panels over a simple lumber framework. Framing members should be spaced 16” on center and between two rows of holes. Wallboard adhesive or contact cement should be used to insure a strong bond between the
framing members and panels. More than 60 hanging fixtures are available for use with Peg-Board paneling. Peg-Board’s permanent plastic finish does not require refinishing or redecorating, and it can be kept clean ,with an occasional damp wiping. The smooth, baked plastic finish will resist heat, moisture, acids, stains and other hard wear encountered around the home. Wood Finishes Make Attractive Ceilings If you finish off your expansion attic, you can obtain an interesting effect by sheathing the roof rafters in decorative wood and painting or papering the ceiling between the beams. The walls should be finished with matching wood panels, and bookshelves can be set in where the ceiling dips too low for comfortable headroom. If the attic floor is unfinished, a number of attractive wood floor materials may be used. If the rustic mood is to be carried but, the most advisable floor may consist 6f"fahdbm-width planks with woodan pegs. % TIPS ON REMODELLING In modernizing an older house the first thing to consider is the exterior by which others judge the house, says “Today’s Home" Magazine. It says the remodelling must warrant any expenditure by an increase in value. Trade in a good town — Decatur
