Wintry Winds Whip At Western States Warming Trend Is Moved To Midwest <United Press International) Wintry winds whipped across the western states Tuesday, dropping temperatures to near or below freezing in most of Montana and Idaho and southward into northern Nevada. The Southeast also got a taste of near freezing weather early Tuesday as temperatures skidded into the 30s under* clear skies as' far south as northern Alabama and Georgia. Readings were mostly in the 40s from the Carolinas northward into southern New England, leaving southern Florida the only eastern refuge of warm weather with temperatures in the 70s. A warming trend pushed into the Midwest, boosting temperatures into the 40s in parts of Minnesota and North Dakota and into the 50s in Kansas, a climb of 20 degrees as compared with readings early Monday. The cold air in the west brought snow to parts of Wyoming, with an inch of snow accumulating at Evanston in the southwestern corner of the state. Scattered showers fell from southern California into northern Utah and along the Washington and Oregon coasts, depositing .65 of an inch at Astoria. Ore. Some showers also occurred in the Northeast during the night, while snow continued in parts of northern New England.
