lowa Defeats . Minnesota For Big Ten Title CHICAGO (UPI) — lowa presented Coach Forest Evashevski with his second Big Ten football championship and Rose Bowl bid in three years today and then headed for its first unbeaten season since 1900. The nation’s top-ranked Hawkeyes ended the current conference title chase Saturday with an almost effortless triumph over Minnesota for their fifth league victory and their sixth overall. Only an early season tie with the Air Force Academy blots the lowa escutcheon. While waiting for the Pacific Coast Conference to pick its Rose Bowl occupant for New Year’s Day, lowa has a chance to close out the season with the best record since the 1900 Hawkeyes finished with a 7-0-1 slate. Only Ohio State and Notre Dame remain on the lowa schedule, and if past performances mean anything, the Hawkeyes should get by both and finish with eight victories and one tie. Joining the winning circle with lowa’s 28-6 rout of Minnesota were Wisconsin which defeated Northwestern, 17-13, Illinois 21-8 over. Michigan, and Indiana, 6-0 over Michigan State. Purdue tied Ohio State, 14-14, thereby ending any championship hopes at the Buckeye school. Second and third place will be at stake next Saturday when Wisconsin (3-1-1) meets Illinois (3-2-0* and Purdue (2-1-1) travels

Week's Schedule For Adams County Basketball Teams Tuesday Rockcreek at Hartford. Thursday Monmouth at Commodores. Friday Portland at Berne. Monmouth at Ossian. Pleasant Mills at Harlan. Saturday Hoagland at Adams Central. Berne at Fort Wayne Concordia. to Northwestern. Indiana will be shooting for its third conference triumph in a clash with Michigan, while Minnesota and Michigan) State will each be seeking their first league success in a battle to escape the cellar. The Hawkeyes clinched the championship by combining what is probably the best forward wall in the Midwest with the passing accuracy and generalship of AllAmerican candidate Randy Duncan.

Duncan flipped two touchdown passes, and halfback Willie Fleming raced for 46 and 63 yards for the other two scores. Wisconsin turned a pair of bad breaks for Northwestern into scores. A fumble by Wildcat halfback Sam Johnson set the stage for a Wisconsin field goal from the 22 by Jon Hobbs, and a bobble by Ron Burton on a kickoff return was all the Badgers needed to get started on a TD drive from the Northwestern 16. Earl Faison, a 6-foot, 5-inch Hoosier sophomore, sprinted 92 yards for a touchdown to give Indiana its 6-0 edge over Michigan State. It was the second league win for the Hoosiers, who haven't done as well since 1954. Bob Jarus, who played extremely well fort all his reported injuries, plunged for one last period touchdown, and quarterback Ross Fichtner fired a seven-yard pass to Dick Brooks for the other to tie Ohio State. Rich Kreitling caught three touchdown passes in the Illinois victory. His first score came on an 83-yard pass play and the second on a 60-yard completion. ’ Sophomore John Easter brook !tossed both:
