Berne Bears' Net Schedule Is Announced The Berne Bears, defending sectional champions, will launch their 1958-59 season Saturday night, meeting the Pleasant Mills Spartans at Pleasant Mills. The Bears have been handicapped because of the unavailability of their gym for practice sessions. The gym is being remodeled and enlarged, to increase seating capacity from 1,100 to about 1,900. The first home game for the Bears, scheduled for next Tuesday against Dunkirk, has been rescheduled for Dec. 6. This will mark Berne’s first game in its own gym Friday, Nov. 14, against the Portland. Panthers, Coach Bill Anderspn faces a rebuilding job, as the Bears lost heavily by graduation, including four regulars. Those graduated were Gary Beaty, Fred Stahly, Tom Steury, Bryce Winteregg, and Tony and Alan Yoder. Only returning player who saw much action in the latter stages of the season is Rod Schwartz, now a 6-3 sophomore, one of the Bears’ stars in their sectional triumph., Others back from the sectional squad are Mike Collier, Dave Klofpenstein, Ron Lautzenheiser and Phil Sprunger. The schedule follows: Nov. I—Pleasant Mills at Pleas-

Week's Schedule For Adams County Basketball Teams Saturday Berne at Pleasant Mills. Adams Centra) at Geneva. Petroleum at Monmouth. New Athletic Conference To Be Organized Organization of a new athletic conference by six high schools, four from Adams county and two from Wells county, was announced today by Herman Frantz, Adams Central high school principal. Schools forming the conference are Adams Central. Berne-French, Geneva, Monmouth, Ossian and Lancaster Central. The new conference will become active with the. opening of the 1959-60 school year next September. Decision to form the new loop was made following disbanding of the Eastern Indiana athletic conference, an action taken when member schools found difficulties in arranging schedules and also because of the travel involved and the lack of rivalry. The six schools in the new conference present a natural rivalry setup and scheduling offers no problem as all the schools play all other schools. Athletic competition will include basketball, baseball, track and cross country, and all of the six member schools compete in all these sports. The conference, looking toward possible expansion, will consider only schools which compete in all four of these sports. Official name of the new conference will be determined at the next meeting of the members, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20. Each school has been asked to submit a name, from which the official name will be chosen. Each school has also been allotted a section of the constitution and bylaws to be presented at the next meeting for consideration. Star Halfback Quits St. Joseph's College RENSSELAER, Ind. <UPI> — Halfback Larry Williams, leading ball-carrier in the Indiana Collegiate Conference and second highest scorer, quit school Thursday, 3t. Joseph’s College said ttday. Williams, 20, an Indianapolis Tech product, was dropped from the football team Wednesday for disciplinary reasons, the college said.
