Ex-Pesky Redskin Now A Turncoat Larsen Is Now In Northwest Passage By VERNON SCOTT UPI Hollywood Correspondent HOLLYWOOD (UPD — Keith Larsen, a pesky redskin in the defunct “Brave Eagle’* TV series, is a turncoat who now plays an Injun-k ill in g frontiersman in “Northwest Passage,” another TV series. What’s more, Larsen is partly Indian himself, admitting to a strain of Cheyenne blood. So how does he justify this about-face? "I have no compunctions about shooting Indians,” he grinned, "because I’m mostly Danish. “But some of the extras who used to be in my tribe when I played Brave Eagle are kinda upset when I level ’em with my blunderbuss in the new series. Most of them are real Indians, and I guess they figure me for some kind of traitor.” Three - Series Star Larsen is the only video star who can boast of having ap peared in three teleseries. In 1953 he was a detective in “The Hunter,” in 1955 it was "Brave Eagle.” If “Northwest Passage” isn’t renewed, he may turn up in a fourth. Larsen portrays Maj. Robert Rogers, .a historical figure who participated in the French and Indian War, which is something of a switch in “Westerns.” Rather than a horse opera, “Northwest Passage” might be termed a canoe opera. “In regular Westerns the hero jumps on his horse and chases the bad guys,” Keith explained. “Not me. I jump into a canoe and paddle after them. “There is no quick draw, either. . The six-shooter wasn’t even invented when Rogers was roaming the countryside back in 1755. He was armed with an old flintlock and powder horn, and wouldn’t have been a match for the typical TV hero. “I much prefer playing Rogers to Brave Eagle. As an Indian I had to wear a wig. Every time I took it off part of my scalp went with it. Has Love Interest “Another good thing about Rogers is the love interest in the story.' Poor old Brave Eagle never had a girl friend.
