Social Secur. Answers Ma (Editor’s note: Do you have any questions about Social Security? We all do, don’t we? Send any question you might have to Social Security Quiz, c/o Daily Democrat. You’ll find your answer in this column, which Is published each Saturday.) 1. Q —Are household workers on a farm reported quarterly? A—No. Farm household workers are reported on a yearly basis as are other agricultural workers. This report should be sent to District Director of Internal Revenue not later than January 31, after the year in which wages are paid. 2. Q —l applied for a disability benefit about a year ago and the Social Security Administration notified me that I was not eligible for disability benefits because they considered I was still able to engage in some substantial work. Does the new law make any changes regarding how disabled a worker must be? A—No. To be eligible for a disability benefit at age 50, a worker must still be so severely disabled that he is unable to engage in any substantial gainful work. However, there has been a change in the work requirements for a disability benefit in that a worker need not have social security credit for 1% years in the last three years before he became totally disabled. 3. q —My son works for me in my filling station. I was told that I should not report his wages under social security. Is this true? A—ls your son is under age 21, his wages are not covered by social security. If he is age 21 or older you are required to report his wages under social security. 4. Q—l am already receiving social security benefits. Do I have to apply for the increase provided by the new law? A—No. The increase will be automatically, added to the checks for January which will be mailed out early in February. 5. Q-If a disabled worker is now receiving social security benefits, what members of his

ity Quiz my Queries family may also receive benefits according to the new law? A—Among the groups now eligible to apply for social security payments because of the recent amendments to the law, are dependents of people Who are now getting disability Insurance benefits; children under 18; or disabled children over age 18 where the disability began before the child’s 18th birthday; a wife 62 or over; or a dependent husband 65 or over. They must, however, apply at the social security office before their benefits can start. 6. Q—l am only receiving part of my social security disability benefit because I am also receiving another Federal disability payment. Does this new law affect me? A—Yes. If you are eligible for disability insurance benefits but you get less than the full amount of your benefit, or do not get any benefit at all, because you are being paid State workmen’s compensation or some other benefit from the Federal Government because of disability, beginning with the payment for August 1958, your full social security benefit will be paid to you even though you get other disability payments. You do not need to take any action to get this social security payment; the change will be automatic. 7. Q—Under the new law, what will be the minimum and maximum benefits payable to a retired worker? A—The minimum monthly benefit payable to a retired worker who is at least 65 years old, will be raised automatically from S3O. payable for 1958, to $33 for January 1959. and the maximum monthly benefit for such a worker will be automotically raised from $108.50, payable for 1958 to sll6 payable for January 1959. The new maximum, however, is $127, but no one could possibly receive this retirement benefit until 1997. because it is based on the new wage base of S4BOO a year an average monthly earnings under social security of S4OO. PROBING BOMB (Continued from page one) him leave the plane at Wichita carrying a brown package and his briefcase. But McCuiston entered the terminal lobby, walked up to a booth attended by Mrs. James Embree and told her: “I found a package in the telephone booth. Where is the lost-and-found department?” “Well, we don't have a regular one,” she replied. “It’s in the airport manager’s office and I'll be glad to take it there for you.” Touches Package She put her hand on the package to take it. “No,” he said. “I have a few minutes. I’ll do it myself.” McCuiston walked 150 feet across the main lobby and started down a 40-foot corridor that leads to the airport manager’s office. He was halfway through it when the bomb went off. The insurance policy McCuiston took out contains a clause stating the beneficiary cannot collect if death is due to suicide.
