to thank those people who helped to bring about the success of their first junior dance. —By Pat Kintz D. C H S. - . Last week, tension mounted at Decatur Catholic high as both faculty members and the students waited anxibusly for the latest reports on the condition of our beloved Pope Pius XII. Through the latter portion of the afternoon of October 8, radios were turned in every 20 minutes to get the latest account of the Supreme Pontiff’s
condition. Thursday upon learning of the Pope’s death, students offered prayers for the repose of his soul. We students grieve for the loss of a pious and intellectual giant and pray that God will send an equally holy successor. D. C. H. S. Tuesday, the civics of *59, along with their teacher, found themselves lost in a world over-flowing with progress; they were guests of the Decatur General Electric plant. Upon arrival at the local plant, the group was escorted into

the building, where they were shown the cafeteria and the recreation and the club rooms. A short talk by George F. Laurept, supervisor of employe relations, familiarized the group with the aims ol the General Electric company. A tour followed under the guidance i of Mr. Laurent, Kenneth Gaunt. Marc Gotch, Julius Baker, and Norman Koons. Needless to say, the group was fasinated by the uniform procedure of mass production and wish to extend their gratitude to the plant employes who made the
tour interesting, educational, and entertaining. D. C. H. S. "Oh! What happened to our trees? Moans and groans arose Wednesday morning as the students discovered, much to their dis- ' may, that the trees located at the front of the school building had I been cut down. The students miss having those trees, but they hope that the wood of the trees (if found to be of any value) be used for a worthy cause.

Report cards were distributed last Tuesday, some were satisfied with the results, others were not so happy. The cards are different than last year’s. There are reasons listed on the back of the card why the student may not be doing the work that he should be doing. * -D.H.S.—
