County Is Invaded By Giant Foxtail Giant foxtail has invaded Adams county, according to Leo N. Seltenright, county agricultural agent. It is the most serious annual weed to threaten farmers of Adams county, according to extension botanist Oliver C. Lee. He points out that a single plant may produce as many as 20,000 seeds. Giant foxtail is similar to the common yellow and green foxtails in appearance, but is larger. The leaves are broader, with a rough upper surface; the heads are from four to eight inches in length, and dropping or bent over. It may reach a height of six or seven feet, Seltenright points out. Some suggestions tojprevent introduction of giant foxtail, by Seltenright, are to use clean seed, avoid bringing contaminated hay, straw or feed onto clean farms, clean machinery and destroy that patch on the roadside, in the fence row, or on the ditch bank.' Record Bean Crop Taxes facilities * Receiving Stations A Reported Overtaxed INDIANAPOLIS (UPD—A record crop of Indiana soybeans, 59 per cent above average in quantity, is moving so rapidly into grain receiving stations that it is overtaxing facilites. Hie Agriculture Department announced last week that the Oct. 1 estimate for Indiana was 61,830,000 bushels, 17 per cent above last year and 59 per cent above average, with an average yield of 27 bushels to the acre, 2% bushels above last year and 4.7 bushels above the 10-year average. Reports circulated that some Midwestern elevators, possibly some in Indiana, were turning down deliveries because their storage facilities were overtaxed. Central Soya Co., which has processing plants in Indianapolis and Decatur, said it still is taking all beans delivered but they are "coming in very fast and there has been a steady accumulation the last few days.” A shortage of rail cars to shuttle the grain to processing points was blamed in part. Truck movement of the beans was reported to be extremely heavy. Quality of the crop was reported as "very good.” Agricultural statisticians at Purdue, in their weekly crop report, indicated that two-thirds of the soybean crop had been harvested by the end of last week. COUNTY (Conttnuea trom page one) Flecsh and Miller, talked to the commissioners on the purchase of a carry-all trailer. The commissioners did not purchase or take any action concerning the trailer.
