RAY SMITH CELEBRATES 69TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY Ray Smth, a retired mail carrier, was guest of honor at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Austin Merriman of Blue Creeck township, Sunday. The occasion was in honor of Smith’s 69th birthday anniversary. The following people attended the noon meal, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith. MRS. ROBERT AMSTUTZ r IS HONORED WITH SHOWER Mrs. Robert Amstutz, the former Miss Sara Habegger, was honored recently with a surprise bridal 1 shower. Upon her arrival at the Decatur Youth and Community 1 Center, Mrs. Amstutz was presented with a corsage of white mums . with a rainbow ribbon. Games were played during the evening and the winners presented their prizes to the guest of hon- ' or. Hostess for the evening was Miss Janet Agler and she was assisted by Mrs. Mac Smith. Gifts were laid on three decorated tables which were placed at one end of the room. The middle table was cleverly decorated with a miniature bride doll coming through an archway trimmed with ( red roses. Refreshments of cake topped with miniature umbrellas, ice cream, nuts, and mints and coffee were served to the Mesdames Syvallia. Habegger. NEEDLE CLUBS MEETS AFTER TEMPLE MEETING The Pythian Sister Needle club met recently after the temple meeting. Sixteen members answered the roll call and Mrs. Ed Ahr, president, was in charge of the business meeting. In keeping with the season, the tables were decorated with Halloween colors. Serving a luncheon to the members were Miss Grace Lichtensteiger and Mrs. C. L. August. Games were played during the evening and prizes were awarded to the winners. Deloris Wince Is ... . Married Recently To Richard Duff The Oak Grove Church of God was the scene of the wedding of Miss Deloris Wince and Richard Duff October 4. The double ring rites were read by the Rev. Hubert Miller at 6:30 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Porter Wince of Whitley county are the parents of tHe bride and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howell Duff of Decatur. Palms and potted white chrysanthemums decorated the altar of the church and Miss Beverly Mossburg, organist, and Battle Miller, soloist, presented a 10minute musicale preceding the ceremony. Miss Mossburg used the traditional wedding marches for the processional and recessional. The bride, given in marriage by the father, appeared in a white satin gown. The fitted bodice featured a scooped neckline, long sleeves, which came to points over her hands, and a cummerbund. Her full floor length skirt flowed into a chapel train. French illusion which was held in place by a cap of velvet leaves and carried a cascade of white carnations shaped like a cross. Miss Barbara Lou Wince was her sister’s maid of honor,-wear-ing a princess style floor length gown of purple faille. It was fashioned with a square neckline and a cummerbund which formed a bustle. She wore a matching hat and white gloves and carried a; cascade of lilac mums. Serving as bridesmaids were Miss Sandra Kay Wince, sister of the bride, Mrs. Gloria Courtner, sister of the bridegroom. Miss Ruth, Ann Billings and Mrs. Carolyn Hoppas. Their gowns were styled identical to the one worn by the maid of honor in shades of green and rust. They wore matching hats and white gloves and carried cascades of bronze mums. Little Misk Sandra Duff, sister of the bridegroom, was the flower girl. She wore a gold faille gown styled like the other attendants and carried bronze mums. The gowns of the bride and her attendants were made by the bride’s mother. Marvin Fast, Decatur, was groomsman and Steve Diffendarfer, Jim Billings, Bucky Billings, and Gene Courtney, brother-in-law of the bridegroom were the ushers. Kenneth Wince, cousin of the bride, was the ringbearer. Men of the bridal party were dressed in white dinner jackets and black trousers and wore white carnation boutonniers. Mrs. Wince chose for her daughter’s wedding, a princess style faille dress of peacock blue with brown accessories. The mother of the bridegroom wore a navy blue sheath dress trimmed with lace and selected navy blue and white accessories. Their corsages were of white, mums. Guests were received at the TOOF hall following the wedding. Assisting with the serving were Mrs. Harold Wince, Miss Ann Miller and Miss Sharon Smith. They were dressed in mint colored dresses and white organdy aprons. Each wore a bronze mum corsage. Mrs. Robert Maggert and Mrs. C. Z. Rosenberger also as-, sisted at the reception. The bride, a graduate of Jefferson Center high school, is em-

ployed at the Sears-Roebuck store. The bridegroom is a graduate of Decatur high school and is employed by the Phelps Dodge Copper Products Corp. ' in Fort Wayne. PAST PRESIDENTS PARLEY MEETS MONDAY EVENING Past Presidents Parley of the American Legion auxiliary members met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Mabel Liniger. Following the dessert luncheon, a business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Ed Bauer. Mrs. Melvin Luhman was welcomed into the organization as a new member and pinochle was played, with prizes awarded to Mrs. Ed Bfeuer, Mrs. T. C. Smith and Mrs. Arthur Myers as first, second, and third place winners respectively. A report on the P. P. P. of the fourth district which held a meeting at post 82 in Fort Wayne Wednesday was given by Mrs. Lawrence , Rash, Mrs. T. C. Smith, MVs. Ed Bauer, and Mrs. Melvin Luhman. PLEASANT MILLS SCHOOL PLANS FALL FESTIVAL A fall festival and auction is being planned by the Pleasant Mills PT A. and school. The date set is October 20 from 5:30 until 10 o’clock. Food will be served from 5:30 on and there will be a large variety of booths to supply entertainment. A promise of new items of all kinds has been made for the auction, which will be one of the main, attractions. To climax a contest which has been underway at the school, a queen will be announced during the evening. The high school students who are entered in the contest include freshman. Beverly Myers; sophomore, Louise Currie; junior. Sharon Bebout; and senior, Judy Williamson. LINCOLN SCHOOL P.T.A. WILL MEET THURSDAY Judge Myles F. Parrish, president of the Lincoln P.T.A. announLincoln P.T.A. will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Lincoln school auditorium. The meeting will be a “Get Acquainted” meeting and all of the teachers and parents will be introduced in order that all of the members will get to know one another better. John Richard Eichhorn, program chairman, urges all of the parents* and teachers as well as all of the various committee chairmen and members to be present in order to-give their reports and advise the group of their progress thus far. Mrs. D. A. Swickard, chairman of the publications committee, will give her report on the Indiana Parent-Teacher Magazine and the National Parents Magazine. Both magazines are published by the Indiana and National P.T.A. and have a wide circulation because of their informative articles on children and home life. Eichhorn stated that the program will last only 45 minutes, which will include a very short business meeting. Devotions will be in charge of : the character and spiritual education committee headed by Rev. ! Carroll Myers, chairman. All mem- ! bers are urged to be present in i order to give the P.T.A. a good i start for the school year. Catholic Ladies of Columbia will hold a rummage sale at the C.L. of C. hall Saturday at 9 o’clock. Donated clothes may be brought in Friday night or early Saturday morning. Monroe Methodist M.Y.F. will sponsor a bake sale at Stucky’s store in Monroe and a car wash at Zurcher’s service station Saturday beginning at 9 o'clock. Thursday at 1:30 o’clock, the Friendship Village Demonstration club members will meet at the Kimsey school. An election of officers will be held and the members are asked to bring their achievement day envelopes. ENGAGEMENT IS ANNOUNCED OF MISS ELAINE STULTZ Mrs. Edith Stultz of route 2, announces the engagement of her daughter, Elaine Leslie, to Richard Henry Reimschisel. He is the son of Mrs. Nellie Bertsch of 223 West Wiley avenue, Bluffton. Girl Scouts Girl Scout troop 212 met Wednesday for their second meeting. It was decided to have a square dance October 24 and each girl will invite a guest. New patrol leaders are Colleen Kelly, Kathleen Smith, and Cynthia Collier. The treasurer is Alice Schroeder and Sarah Sutton is scribe. The next meeting will be held at the shelter house and permission slips must be signed and given to the leaders. Mrs. Wayne (Elma) Gaunt has been dismissed from the Parkview hospital and returned to her home on route 5. Mrs. Gaunt was taken to the hospital suffering from a back injury. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Saylors returned Saturday from a 30-day trip to Europe. While there, they visited seven different countries, where they report very friendly and gracious people. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown of North Second street have returned from a trip through the East. They attended the art show of the Michael Renear art collection from Italy, Germany, and France at the Cleveland art museum. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Myers had as their guests, Mrs. Marie Robbins and Mrs. Mildred Rosentreter, both of Illinois. Miss Kathy Sue Gerber of route 2 was dismissed Sunday from the Wells county hospital at Bluffton after receiving treatment. Homer D. Hoover, 61, of Decatur, was charged in Wells county with disregarding a stop sign by the state police Saturday. A car driven by Ervin Fietchter, 43, of Bluffton route 4, skidded on the gravel at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and struck a pickup truck stopped at the side of the road one mile north and one mile west of Craigville. The driver of the truck, Harvey A. Millington, 20, of Craigville route one, told the sheriff’s department that he had stamped to help fix a flat tire on the trailer of a third vehicle, which had been pulled off the road. Damage was estimated at S2OO to Fietcher’s car.

Summers Child Dies In Park River, N.D. Timothy James Summers, three-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Summers of Park River, ND., died Sunday at the Park River hospital following a threemonths illness. The baby was born July 4, and has been ill since birth. Exact cause of the death Sunday afternoon was not known. It was the first child of the couple. Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. by the Lutheran minister at Park River. Burial followed at that place. The grandparents are Mrs. Rose Summers of Decatur, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Swenson of Park River.
