Nazarenes Observe Golden Anniversary Special Services On Sunday Morning The Decatur Church of the Nazarene will join Nazarenes around the world ih simultaneous golden anniversary worship services Sunday morning. The Rev. T. E. Holeomb, evangelist, will bring the anniversary sermon. Keynote of other Nazarene services also will be thanksgiving to God for blessings of the past 50 years. In the U. S. and Canada, services will be held in 5,080 churches with 300,000 members. Abroad, another 45,000 Nazarenes will worship in 40 world areas. An international climax of the anniversary year will be reached Monday at Pilot Point, Texas, where a monument will be unveiled at the place where the denomination started in 1908. The Nazarene church is a conservative, orthodox Protestant denomination in the Wesleyan tradition. one of the fastest growing churches in modern annals. With only 214 churches and 10,000 members in 1908, the Nazarene church now ranks 30th in membership. 15th in Sunday school enrollment, and 9th among church publishers. It has 393 missionaries working in 40 world areas and a strong young peonle’s program. The Nazarene radio program. “Showers of Blessing." is heard over 400 stations. International headquarters are in Kansas City. The local church, organized in 1936 with 19 charter members, now has 160 members, and a Sunday school enrollment of more than 200. Architect’s plans have been completed for a new building on the same site where the present tabernacle now stands, with 13 class rooms, nursery, pastor's study, and a sanctuary capacity for 320 worshippers.
