MISS LINDA SMALLEY TO WED DON BARKLEY Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Smalley of Berne, are announcing the engagment and approaching marriage of their duaghter, Linda Lou, to Donald C. Barkley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Barkley of Decatur. Miss Smalley, a graduate of Rockford high scholo, is now employed by 1 the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne. Her fiance, a carpenter, attended Pleasant Mills high school. The wedding will take place at the home of the bride-elect’s parents. October 24 at 6:30 o’clock. The Preble Township Farm Bureau is sponsoring a skating party Monday at the Happy Hours roller rink. Tickets are 50 and 25 cents and can be purchased from any Farm Bureau officer. The regular meeting will be held Wednesday at 8 o’clock at the Freidheim school with an election of officers. Members of the Welcome Wagon club will meet Monday evening at 8 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Glenn McCammon. Mirs Betsy Burk will be a guest and tell of her recent trip to Germany. Each member is asked to bring a picture of herself as a baby or small child. The meeting of the members of the St. Catherine’s Study club has been postponed until October 14. Queen of the Rosary Study club members will meet Thursday at 8 o’clock with Mrs. Homer Rauch. Friday at 7:30 o’clock members of the Mt. Tabor Women’s Society of Christian Service will meet with Mrs. Paul Rich. Members are to bring their worship booklets. Members of the Order of the Eastern Star will meet Thursday at 7:30 o’clock at the Masonic Hall. Tri Kappa members will meet at the Community Center tonight at 7:45 o'clock.

ROADSIDE COUNCIL TO MEET AT YOUTH CENTER October 14, members of the Indiana Roadside Council will meet at the Decatur Youth and Community Center. Mrs. R. C. Hersh will be the general chairman for the event, which, will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration. At 10 o’clbek, the Rev. Willis Giehart will have charge of the morning devotions. Mrs. Hersh will give the welcome and a Response will be given by Mrs. Myers. Other things on the morning program include a flag salute, business meeting, directed by the state president, secretary’s and treasurer’s reports and a solo. A lunch will be served at noon. Legislation will be the theme of the afternoon talk, with George Harvey as speaker. Reservations for the noon lunch should be sent to the chairman in charge, Mrs. Frank Crist of 610 West Jefferson street, no later than Saturday. A silent auction will be held following the meeting of the members of the Church of God Missionary Society Thursday at 7:30 o’clock in the fellowship basement. Unit 4 of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church’s Women’s Society of World Service wUI meet Thursday at 8 o'clock with Mrs. Guy Koos. Kickoff Dinner Is Held Here Recently A kickoff dinner for the 1958-59 operations of the Cargill Com Co. was held recently at the Decatur Youth Community Center. Bernard Jardot, territory manager, outlined the operations program for the ensuing year. Attending from Adams county were William Journay. area manager, and Mrs. Journay, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McGough, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Selking, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kohne. and Walter Lehrman, Jay county persons attending were Lon Bunker, area manager, Mrs. Bunker, and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Ault.
Schools Take Part In Mass Fire Drill AU of the scholo in Decatur wiU participate In the mass fire drill sponsored by WOWO Wednesday morning between 9:45 tmd 10 o’clock along with over 700 other schools taking part in the event, it was announced today. Sr. M. Alemda, of the Catholic schools, Hugh J. Andrews, of Decatur high school, and W. Guy Brown, superintendent of schools, each announced the plans for the Decatur schools to take part in the mass drill. Over 700 schools throughout Indiana, Michigan and Ohio area nave been invited to participate in the mass fire driU. This will be the 13th consecutive year that such a mass evacuation program has been sponsored by WOWO radio. “Smoky the Bear” wilt, give the signal over WOWO that will evacuate the schools. The signal will come sometime during the 15minute program which begins at 9:45 a.m. and which is designed to give added emphasis to safety in schools during fire prevention week. Elwood City Council Member Dies Monday ELTvOOD, Ind. rUPD — Robert E. Spies, 43, a Democratic member of the Elwood City Council, died unexpectedly of a heart seizure Monday, and Mayor Robert Fortson called off a regularly scheduled meeting of the council set for Monday night. AsBIHTHH I Mr. and Mrs. James E. Teeple of Hagerstown are the parents of an eight pound, one and one half ounce son, named James Lee. The mother is the former Clara Lou Schug. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schug. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hunter are the paternal grandparents. A neight pound, six ounce boy was born Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Baroff of Ohio City, Ohio. Mrs. Baroff is the former Miss Naomi Eyanson and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eyanson. Mrs. Thomas Ulman and new born son who were dismissed Friday from the hospital, are not the Thomas Ulman family which resides on route 3, Decatur.

Marilyn Wittung Wed Recenly To Robert W. Rawley A floor length gown of chantilly lace and nylon tulle was worn by Miss Marilyn L. Wittung when she became the bride of Robert W. Rawley September 13. The double ring ceremony was performed in the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church of Decatur before an altar graced with beauty vases of white baby mums. Reading the vows was the Rev. B. J. Thomas. To complete the decorations, baskets of white gladoli centered with peach gladoli, palms and seven branched candelabra were used. White satin bows were placed on

the pews and white brocade kneeling benches were at the foot of the altar. Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Wittung are the parents of the bride and they reside in Rockford, Ohio. Rawley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Winston Rawley of South Winchester street. Upon the completion of organ and vocal selections by Miss Eleanor Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Geman, respectively, Miss Sharon Schumm of Rockford, bridesmaid, and Mrs. Carolyn Jones, twin sister of the bride and matron of honor, entered the church. They wore identically styled dresses of waltz length and fashioned of crystal taffeta with princess lines. The bodice featured a scoop neckline and brief sleeves and the back of the neckline was styled with a
tailored bow and streamers which hung-over the very full gored skirt. Miss Schumm wore a gown of green and Mrs. Jones selected a’capucine shade. Both, wore matching feather hats and white gloves and carried bouquets of fugi mums to compliment their gowns. Master Franklin Parrish of Decatur acted as the ring bearer and he carried the rings on a white satin pillow. Little Miss Norma Smith, cousin of the bride, entered just before Mis Wittung and scattered petals on the white carpeted aisle. She wore an orchid taffeta dress with a crystalline over skirt and puffed sleeves. The net yoke was edged with small .flowers. As Miss Miller played the traditional wedding march. Miss Wittung, was escorted to the altat by her father. She was lovely in her wedding gown which was fashioned with a molded lace bodice and featured a sabrina neckline and long sleeves ending in points over her wrists. Her very full skirt, ( fashioned of rows of tulle ruffles, was highlighted with lace over the skirt forming deep points over the tulle. She wore a matching lace juliet cap misted with pearls and which held her fingertip veil of French illusion. For a bridal bouquet, Mjss Wittung carried a white Bible topped with a lavender orchid, trailing ivy, and white ribbon streamers. Serving as best man for the occasion was Roger Jones, brother-in-law of the birde. Richard Ogg and Stanley Welker seated the guests. For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Wittung selected a brown dress with a burnt orange feather hat and matching accessories. She wore a Corsage of yellow baby mums. Mrs. Rawley chose a black and white silk print suit with black and white accessories and a corsage of white carnations. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church basement. The refreshment table was centered with a five tiered white wedding cake decorated with peach buds and surrounded by green foliage. A miniature bride and bridegroom topped the cake. Presiding at the serving table and wearing varicolored formals . were Miss Lois Farlou, Mrs. Stanley Welker, Miss Connie Rhoades and Miss Janis Rawley, sister of the bridegroom. For an eastern honeymoon, the new Mrs. Rawley changed into a charcoal grey two piece dress

with matching accessories and wore the orchid from her bridal bouquet. The bride is a grduate of Rockford high school and Fredericks beauty college of Lima, Ohio. Rawley is a 1956 graduate of Decatur high school and is employed by the Central Soya company of Decatur. He is also a member of the Indiana air force national guard. Mr. and Mrs. Rawley are now at home on West Market street, Rickford, Ohio. Six Decatur Girls On Television Show Six young Decatur girls will take part in the WANE-TV program, “Woman’s Page,” Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock. The girls, all students of the Marge and Charles dance studios, are Penny McCammon, Susan Heffner, Mary Lee Dull, Judy Koos, Cynthia Gehig and Sandra Baker. Girl Scouls Brownie Troop 224 held a meeting October 4, An election of officers was held and April Fisher is the president and Susan Ellis is treasurer. Susan brought the refreshments and Carol Smith and Nancy Hichcock were in charge oi games. Susan L. and Jsine M. are in charge of songs.
