HUGO BOERGER of route 3, have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter. Kathleen Ann, to Lowell Sharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sharp of route 3, Hartford City. Miss Boerger, a graduate of Monmouth high school, is employed by the Lincoln Life Insurance company in Fort Wayne. Her fiance was graduated from Roll high school and is engaged in farming. The couple will be married November 23, in the St. Peter's Lutheran church with the Rev. F. W. Droegemuller officiating.
Variances Granted By Zoning Appals Board A variance was granted to Harmon's market bj' the zoning board of appeals last night, and a variance was also granted to Norris Blocker. A. L. Harmon was granted the variance from the appeal board for ihe addition to his store at the corner of Seventh and Adams streets. Blocker was granted his permit for the addition to his home. The estimates given were $3,000 to the Harmon grocery, and $2,000 to the Blocker home on Grant street. Pleads Not Guilty To Grand Larceny A man from Decatur, William Scott Halevi entered a plea of pot 'Saturday in the Adams Circuit court to the charge of grand larceny. Haley was charged with the theft of approximately S3O in cash from Doc’s Car Dock in February of this year. He was arrested by the sheriff’s department for the crime on March 23 near his home. Phillip J. Brunton Given Commission Phillip J. Brunton, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brunton of 109 South Fourth street, has been commissioned as a junior assistant pharmacist in the U.S. public health service reserve, and ordered to active duty at the public health hospital in Baltimore, Md. Brunton was graduated from Decatur Catholic high school in 1953. and completed pharmacy school

Herbert Schumm, linotype operator for the Decatur Daily Democrat, returned today from a two-week vacation in the Eastern United States and Canada. Miss Carol Bieberich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bieberich. Miss Donna Cauble, daughter ol Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cauble, and Miss Pat Liechty, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Mel Liechty of Berne, have entered their freshman year at Ball State Teachers College in Muncie. Miss Cauble and Miss Liechty are both recent graduates of Adams Central and Miss Bieberich graduated from Monmouth high school. The address of the first two girls is North Hall. Muncie, Ind. Joe McConnell, Decatur; Robert Fortner, Fort Wayne; and Clyde Crabill, Houghton Lake. Mich., are returning from a Wyoming hunting trip, on which each was reported to have shot a buck deer and a buck antelope. After getting their quota of game, the men spent some time sightseeing in the west. FORMER RESIDENTS MARR GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Sellemeyer, of 1146 Volante Drive, Arcadia, Calif., celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Monday evening in the parlors of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church. The Sellemeyers are former Decatur residents and were married here September 22, 1908, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Beery. The Rev. Wilcox and the Rev. L. C. Hessent, both deceased, officiated at the ceremony. Mrs. Frances Mennymon Burk served as the honor attendant fob Mrs. Sellemeyer, the former Miss Marie Beery, and bridesmaids were ,Mrs. Lucille Hole Wilson and Mrs. Pansey Bell Helm. Albert Sellemeyer served as best man. Fpr the decorations of the church parlors Monday, an appropriate golden color scheme was used throughout.A gold table cloth covered the serving table, which held a tiered cake accented with gold flowers and a miniature bride and bridegroom. Candles tinted gold and doilies of a like color as well as matching mums and roses were used to complete the scene for the celebration. Refreshments of ice cream, cake, mints, nuts, and coffee were served to the guests from a crystal service. Servers included Mrs. Agnes Yager. Miss Kay Yager, Miss Matilda Sellemeyer, Miss Helen Haubold, Mrs.. Al Beavers, Mrs. Lili Burroughs. Miss Madge Hite, Miss Fan Hite, Mrs. James Burk, Mrs. Robert Mills, and Mrs. Harry Dailey. Among the gifts received by the guests of honor, was a wedding tree which was placed in a pot of gold covered pennies. Covered pennies also adorned the branches of the small tree. Several out-of-town guests were registered at the door by Mrs. Ed Wilson. Mrs. Georgia Lake, and Mrs. Edna Blessing and they included Mrs. Emma Sellemeyer Vitz, Arden and Betty Vitz King of Payne, Ohio; Mrs. Leota' Ford and Mrs. Ferman Carson of Muncie; O. P. DONNA JEAN REIDENBACH CELEBRATE BTH BIRTHDAY Twenty-three children helped Miss Donna Jean Reidenbach celebrate her eighth birthday anniversary at a party given by her mother, Mrs. Ronald Reidenbach. ZION EMMANUS GUILD MEETS WEDNESDAY EVENING Zion Lutheran Emmanus Guild members held their first meeting of the 1958-1959 year Wednesday in the parish hall basement. Opening were given and ing devotions were given by the cut-going president, Mrs. Louise Zwick. New officers for this year are president, Mrs James Bleke; vice president, Mrs Robert Krueckeberg secretary - treasurer, Mrs. Edward Wolfe; missions, Mrs. Roland Miller; and membership. Mrs. Martin Bultemeier. Twenty-one members answered roll call, and guests included Mrs. Robert Freeby, Mrs. William Freeby. Mrs. Gorden Gregg, Mrs. Eugene Hill, and Miss Norma VonStroh. During the business portion of the meeting, reports were heard from the auditing committe, and the membership, missions, and card chairmen. Mrs. William Gernand was appointed devotions chairman, Mrs. Arnold Ostermeyer library chairman with Mrs. Zwick as her assistant’ and Mrs. Norman Witte and Mrs. Enos Osterman volunteered to help the membership chairman. The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer. Get acquainted” games were played and prizes were won by Miss VonStroh and Mrs. Gernand. The new officers served as hostesses for the evening. A Roadside council meeting will be held Wednesday at 1:30 o’clock at the Roadside park on High street. The picnic for the members of the Past President’s Parley to be held Sunday has been indefinitely postponed. • Members of the Women’s Society of World Service of the Union Chapel Evangelical United Brethren church will meet Thursday at 7:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs.. Ami Miller. Members are to bring nylon hose for missions. Thursday at 7:30 o'clock, members of the Order of the Eastern Star will meet at the Masonic hall. Plans are now being Completed by the local chapter of the Women of the Moose for the annual star recorder’s day which will be held in Decatur Sunday at 1 o’clock. Chapters invited to attend are Ft. Wayne, Bluffton, Portland, Hartford City, Huntington and Marion. Chairman for the event is Mrs. Evelynn Kingsley, star recorder of the local chapter.
