SUPREME COURT (Continued front page one) ily nearer in the taut situation at two points in Virginia, where the state is prepared under law to close schools compelled to desegregate. Enter New Suit In Charlottesville, two Negroes have until Monday to decide whether they will enter the city’s only white high school under court order, thus invoking the state closing law. A request for a stay of a district judge’s integration' order is to be aired in court Saturday. Monday also is the key day in Warren County/ Va., where the Front Royal High School is scheduled to open on a segregated basis if local authorities agree to comply with a federal court order. State Atty. Gen. Albertis S. Harrison was to appear before the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals today with a plea that the integration order be stayed. A new suit was entered by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People at Van Buren, Ark., asking t|)e U.S. district court to override student opposition at the high school and reinstate 13 Negro pupils scared off by demonstrations. The Negroes still have not returned to school, although the student strike has ended. Church Speaks Out Wednesday the federal Civil Rights Commission revealed it has opened the way for investigation of alleged violation of Negro voting rights in three Southern states. Chairman John A. Hannah listed the states as Alabama, Florida and Mississippi, and said that a probe already was in progress in one locality. , The Justice Department has brought suit in Terrell County, Ga., on'behalf of Negroes it said were discriminated against by voting registrars. In New Orleans today, attorneys planned to make a last-ditch effort io block integration of a new branch of Louisiana State University.'Eleven Negro undergraduates have registered there under court order and more applications are expected. The United Presbyterian Church with about three million members, urged through two of its top offi-, cials Wednesday in New York thsft troops and tanks be used to en- L force desegregation at Little Rock, if necessary. Nationwide integration is inevitable, the spokesmen said. G. Remy Blerly Attorney ESTATE NO. 5313 NOTICE TO Al,I. PERSONS INTERESTED IN THE ESTATE OF JACOB J. Three Killed When Freight Hits Auto Three Others Are Seriously Injured SOUTH BEND, Ind. (UPD — Three persons were killed early today and three others were injured seriously when an automobile drove into the path ot a slowmoving Pennsylvania Railroad freight train on the city’s south side. The driver and two other occupants had been drinking, authorities said. Police said the car apparently swerved to the left side trying to avoid the long train but failed to stop in time to prevent the crash at an unguarded crossing. The dead were Mrs. Shirley Rose Hartman, 22; her five-year-old son. Henry Eugene, and her niece, Sandra Lambright, 12, all of South Bend. Injured were John David Johnson, 19, the driver; Mrs. Hartman’s three-year-old son, David, and Thomas Madura, 15, also of South Bend. The three injured were taken to Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Police said Mrs. Hartman and the two teen-age boys were under the influence of liquor. Jones Is Winner By Technical Knockout CHICAGO (UPD—Ralph (Tigerl Jones scored a technical knockout over Mickey Crawford, aspiring young-welterweight, in the 10th round of their nationally televised bout Wednesday night. Jones found the hit - and - run Crawford a sucker for an overhand right from the opening bell. He staggered Crawford in the second round with the punch and slowed him in every stanza. Crawford went down for a mandatory eight count at just under one minute of the last round. He was up for less than two seconds when Jones clobbered him again. Referee Joey White stopped the fight. UNLOADS CARGO <Continued from page one) American policy in Formosa is based. Felt, bimself, denied the published reports. —A communique carried by the Communist New China News Agency and broadcast by Peiping Radio said Red China had issued what it called a “fourth warning" to the United States against “intruding” into or over Communistclaimed territory as a result of today's sortie by American naval vessels into the waters off Quemoy. AUTO WORKERS r .(Continued from page one) the process of changing over its plants for new model production. Chrysler already is producing 1959 Plymouths. GM begins production of new Chevrolets next Monday, Wildcat strikes during the past several weeks have slowed down all of the companies but GM and Chrysler would have quite an edge on Ford if production was halted by a nationwide strike and the other two major producers continued to turn out new cars. Ford also was susceptible because it needed a comeback badly this year. Although all the auto companies had a bad year with 1958 models, Ford suffered more than GM. Bugas said his company expected to be a strike target all the time and prepared for it. If you have something to sell or rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad — They bring results.
