They are designed for movement on extremeily short notice. Any forces sent to the Far East would be used to strengthen the already big 7th Fleet which op--1 erates in the western Pacific. However, the sending of reinforcements appeared to hinge on a determination of Red Chinese intentions: Are they playing international politics? Or are they ready to risk war to seize the islands? » COUNTY (Continued trcin Page one) miles per hour over wooden bridges or culverts. All violations of traffic laws must be reported, sheriff Affolder reminded motorists and bus drivers. It is also important to pay particular attention to the younger children, the sheriff added. Children themselves must learn rules including these: each pupil will be located immediately upon entering the bus in the place assigned by the driver; no pupils shall stand or move from place to place during the trip; no windows or doors will be opened or closed except by per- . mission of the driver; upon recommendation of the bus driver, school authorities will deny the privilege of riding on the school bus to any pupil who refuses to conduct hireself or herself in a gentlemanly or lady-like manner on the bus; when it is necessary for pupils leaving a school bus to cross the road, they must keep to the right of the bus and cross in front, at a signal from the driver, according to rules established in Indiana in’l93s. LEGISLATURE ripen ono the closing of Central or any other school. “At thte election, the people of the district may vote on the question of keeping the schools segregated or integrated,” he said. “The election would be held in the usual manner by the same officials as would other state elections. “If the people vote to integrate the school, it will be opened on an integrated basis, otherwise it will be kept closed and other provisions must be found for the education of the children who would otherwise attend such school.” Asks Several Measures Faubus also asked the Legislature for measures to: —Provide for the withholding of (pertain state funds from any schools, closed under the provisions of the closure act. Each act. Each child’s proportionate share of school funds would follow him tp any other school in which he wished to enroll, public or private. —Provide for the enrollment and attendance of a student in any other school in the same district or school in another district, under certain conditions. —Provide that no student shall be refused the right to attend any public school because of his or her refusal to attend classes with a student of another race. —Provide for an appropriation for the governor to carry out the program and to pay the expenses of any school district election he may call. Faubus asked finally for a law to postpone the opening date of ‘‘certain high schools,” presumably Central, to Sept. 15.

Seta Three Conditions The governor asked the Legislature to provide for the closing of schools under three conditions: Hie first would be to maintain the peace against “actual or Impending violence” which endangers the citizens, students or teachers, and provide for the safety of building and property. The second would be the ordering of a school to integrate by any court and the use of federal force on or about the school grounds tb‘ enforce the order. ! The third would be the deter- • mination that “a general suitable and efficient educational system cannot be maintained in any i school district becuse of the integration of the races.” Others To Try Unite d Press International learned two Negro students would ‘‘definitely" join three others who tried to gain admittance to white schools Monday at the offices of Schools Superintendent Virgil T. . Blossom. One, a 15 - year -old girl, wants to go to Hall High, the school that drained approximately 1,000 students from Central High School, when Hall opened ' last year. The other four seek to join the • seven students who remain of the i group whose attendance at Central ; touched off mob violence last ’ year. It was anticipated “several i more Negroes” would try to seek admittance to Hall and Central before registration closes late toIday. ... -— Troubles Elsewhere The Arkansas Legislature met amid these other integration developments: —ln Norfolk, Va., U. S. District Judge Walter E. Hoffman ordered the Norfolk School Board Monday to reconsider all 151 of the Negro applications to white schools it rejected last week. The order put pressure on the school board to admit 12 to 30 Negroes to white schools next month or run the risk of a contempt citation.
