KITCHEN-GROCERY SHOWER HONORS SHARON KREISCHER Miss Sharon K. Kreischer, brideelect of Daniel E. Cowans, was guest of honor at a kitchen-grocery shower given her by Mrg. Jerry Cowans, Miss Twannette Magley and Miss Janice Kreischer. The shower was held at the home of Mrs. Lester Cowans. Upon her arrival, Miss Kreischer was presented with a corsage consisting of small kitchen utensils. Next, games were played with prizes being won by Mrs. Milton Scherry, Mrs. Otto Helmrich and Miss Marlene Cowans, who in turn presented them to the honored guest. After Miss Kreischer had opened her gifts, refreshments of punch, party cookies, mints and nuts, were served by the hostesses. Those present for the oceassion included the Mesdames Lester Cowans, Gerald Cook, Milton Scherry, Arthur Adams, Lloyd Kreischer, H. D. Kreischer, Losier Eckrote, Otto Helmrich. Archie Wen Sal, and the Misses Vallory Eckrote, Susan Helmrich and Marlene Cowans. Those unable to attend were Mrs, Nora Woodruff, Mrs. Marge Daniels, and Miss Susan Cook. The annual Rumple reunion will be held Sunday at the Center school house, west of Rockford, Ohio. A basket dinner will be served at noon. Members of the Home Demon-| startion club of Union township and their families are invited to a pot luck dinner to be held Thursday at 6:30 o'clock at the Hanna Nuttman park shelter house. JAMESTOWN LADIES AID MEETS AT SUMMER HOME The Lake George summer home of Mrs. John Floyd of Monroe was the scene of the recent meeting of the members of the Jamestown Ladies Aid Society. At noon, a dinner was served at small tables centered with crystal vases filled with miniature pansy’s. Presiding over the meeting and entertainment was Mrs. L. C. Nunam. At 2 o’clock, an outdoor auction was held with cookies and punch served to those who attended the sale.. Assisting Mrs. Floyd were Mrs, Clarence P. Lapp, Mrs. Glen Longshare and Mrs. Elmer C. Bley. MISS MYRTLE CLEMENTS IS HOSTESS TO W. S. C. Si Mrs. Gladys Tumbleson presented the lesson “My Life in the March of Missions” at the recent meeting of the members of the Woman’s Society of 5 Christian Service of the Mt. Tabor church who met at the home* of Miss Myrtle Clements. After the meeting was opened with the call to worship led by Mrs. Tumbleson, a scripture reading Was given by Mrs. A. E. McMichael and a prayer by the Rev. George Christian. The group then joined in singing “A Charge to Keep I Have” and the meditation was given by Miss Clements. Mrs. Glen Chronister, Mrs. H. W Culbertson, Mrs. Lawrence Andrews, and Mrs. Paul Rich, all preI sented brief talks and Mrs, C. E. ' Chronister closed the lesson program by singing “An Evening Prayer.” During the business meeting, it was decided to have a missionary give a lecture at the church in the near future and have a reading course this fall using the book “Middle East Pilgrimage." Mrs. Darwin Drake adjourned the business meeting and the hostess assisted by Mrs. Gladys Tumbleson and Mrs. Glen Chronister served refreshments to the 12 members and three guests present.

Miss Lorna Smith Is Recent Bride Os Kenneth Linn Aurand August 17, at 2:30 o’clock. Miss Lorna Louise Smith became the bride of Kenneth Linn Aurand in a double ring ceremony read by the Rev. Robert Welch in the St. Paul Missionary church. Palms, white gladioli and condelbra graced the front of the church and pew bows were used for aisle decorations. Miss Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pete Smith, and Aurand is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mele J. Aurand of Van Wert. Ohio. Preceding the appearance of the bride. Jay Martin and the Rev. Wesley Gerig presented several numbers. Wearing a ballerina-length gown of Swiss embrodidered organdy, the bride was escorted to the front of the church by her father. The bodice was styled brief sleeves and a scalloped square neckline Her very bouffant skirt was detailed with a scalloped hemline and a wide border of embroidery. Mounted on a prayer book, she carried a white orchid with ivy and pink carnations and streamers tied in lover’s knots. A sequin and pearl studded half crown held her fingertip veil of silk illusion and she wore a pearl necklace and pearl earrings, a gift of the bridegroom. Miss Betty Smith, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor in a gown styled of crystalline silk with a fitted bodice, cowl neckline and short sleeves. A large bow formed streamers to extend the full length of the ballerina length skirt which was in shell pink. Her headress with a small veil matcher her gown and she carried a bouquet of pink and

white mums. “ Brother of the bridegroom John , F. Aurand was the best man, and seating the guests were Robert Hildebrand and Harold Krueckeberg. Following the ceremony, approximately 200 guests were received at the Farm Bureau Building in Monroe. The serving table was centered wnth a five tiered cake with candelabra and pink annd white gladioli used as decorations. Servers included Mrs. Berdell Lehman, Mrs. Don Moser, Miss Janell Swygart and Miss Rosalie Elston. Gifts were registered by Miss Gladys Ewell. For a wedding trip of an announced destination, the new Mrs. Aurand changed into a peacock blue sheath dress with a jacket with a stand up collar. She choose white white accessories and wore the whitt orchid from her bridal bouquet. A grdauate of Decatur high school, the bride is employed by Central Insurance of Van Wert. The bridegroom graduated from Van Wert high school and is employed by the Borden Food Company in Van Wert. The double are now at home at 315 North Market street in Van Wert, Ohio. ” Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock, the members of the Zion Lutheran Needle club will meet at the Lutheran Parrish hall. DECATUR RESIDENTS ATTEND ANNUAL HABEGGER REUNION Sunday, Lehman park at Berne was the scene of the annual Jacob Habegger family reunion. More than 200 people attended the affair where Eli Habegger served as chairman. At a business meeting held, the new officers were elected and they are John H. Habegger, president. Sylvan D. Adams Central Band To Compete At Fair Thursday, August 28, the Adams Central high school band will travel to the Indiana state fair to compete in the band contest which begins at 8 a. m. at the grandstand. Departure time from the Adams Central school for the marching group, bandmaster Don Gerig has announced, will be 7:30 a. m. Thursday. The group will return to the school at about 9 p. m. that evening. More than 90 bands will be competing for prizes at the state fair contest. DHS Grad Appointed To Fort Wayne Police Among seven men who have been appointed to the Fort Wayne Police department is John H. O’Leary, a graduate of Decatur high school. O'Leary was sworn in along with six others Monday morning, and immediately started six weeks of intensive training at the police academy. “““ A five-year veteran in the Army he now resides in Fort Wayne, where he formerly worked at the Falstaff Brewery. He is married and the father of four children.

Dr. and Mrs. Edward Peck will leave Wednesday for River Edge, New Jersey to visit Mrs. Peck’s sister and while there will meet their daughter Kenny who will fly down from Cape Cod, Mass., where she had been working this summer. Miss Peck will enter Indiana University this fall. Mrs. Kenneth Debolt of Gage Avenue, will have as a guest, her mother who is coming from Kansas. Wednesday, Dr. and Mrs. Melvin Weisman and family will leave for Philadelphia. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hart, Mr. and Mrs. William Callahan and son of Huntington, Miss Allie Burrell of Fort Wayne, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burrell of Decatur were here to celebrate the 89th birthday anniversary of Richard Burrell of South Sixth street. Mr. and Mrs. Burrell recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Applying for a marriage license recently in Bluffton were Miss Carol Ann Kaehr, route four, and Vernon W. Meyer, Bluffton. Bernice Merriss, of Covington, Ky. ,and his granddaughter, Barbara, visited friends in Decatur Monday. Merriss was born in Decatur, but worked for 53 years as an engineer, retiring July 1. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ehiriger and Mrs. Clarence Kortenber returned recently from Decatur, Illinois. where they visited with Dr. and Mrs. R. F. Underwood. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Snyder and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shaffer, were in Kingsville, Canada over the week-end.
