Decatur Boy Models Museum Periscope David Baughn First To Use Periscope Asking Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bayghn whether she could use the lad who was entering the museum with them, the lady piloted their grandson, nine-year-old David, through a roped-off area. About an hoyr later, David Baughn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Baughn, of Homestaed, was “a very happy and much photographed” boy after modeling a periscope for photographers' during his visit to the Chicago museum of science and industry, a Monday morning stop-off on his return from a fishing trip in Wisconsin. David was taken to the area where a two-and-one-half-ton periscope was being assembled near a submarine exhibit. He was the first person to operate the large instbument, a replica of a periscope of a captured German submarine at the museum. The casing was just being put on the periscope, and crews of welders, electricians, and steel workers stood back while the bulbs flashed at David, say the Baughns: ■ Thn w < fta H a yszi Kic 111 v iliiit ’V t_ai -uiu dliu Ills pl ct IJ t_l” parents returned home Monday evening after the session* of posing. No federal law can be utilized in suppressing agitators." Thurgood Marshall. New York attorney for the NAACP, charged “there was no real effort to discipline white students.” “When fires were started.” Marshall argued, “the procedure was to put out the fires, rather than punish the culprits,” Marshall said the case rested on two points: Disturbances within the school, and outside interference. He said the presence of federal troops to protect the nine Negro students who entered Central High School halted outside interference.
