NEW MEMBER WELCOMED BY JOLLY HOUSEWIVES Mrs. John King was welcomed as a new member at the Tuesday evening meeting of the members of the Jolly Housewives Home Demonstration club of St. Mary’s township. Conducting the meeting was Mrs. Carly Frey, after which the members recited the club collect and Mrs. Harry Ray read the 100th Psalm for the devotions. Also on the program were singing by the group and a reading of the club commandments by Mrs. Frey. A health and safety lesson was given by Mrs. Darrell Clouse, and Mrs. Agnes Backhaus presented the citizenship lesson. Following the business meeting, each member made herself an unusual hat which she wore during the refreshments period, which was under the direction of Mrs. Carl Frey, Mrs. Frank Clingenpeel, Mrs. Elmer Goliff, and Mrs. Harry Ray. UNION WOMEN'S CLUB HOLDS JULY MEETING Members of the Union Woman’s club met at the home of Mrs. Fred. Marbach for their July meeting. Mrs. Rolland Gilliom, president, opened the meeting by repeating the club creed and club collect. Roll call was answered by the 15 members by giving a current event and the lesson was presented by Mrs. Paul Morgan, who prepared a tuna dish, and Mrs. Thearl Stults, who fixed a jello salad which was later served to the members. At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served to the members and four guests present by Mrs. Marbach and Mrs. Forest Walters. < Members are reminded of the club’s family picnic, which will be held August 28 at Hanna-Nuttman park. SUNNY CIRCLE CLUB HAS RECENT MEETING The president of the Sunny Circle Home Demonstration club, Mrs. Ervin Buuck, opened the recent meeting of the members of that club by having them repeat the club command. During the meeting, which was held at the Preble township community building, Mrs. William • Kruetzman gave a history of the song of the month “On the Banks of the Wabash" and later the group sang it. A lesson on “Simple Company Meals” was given by Mrs. Robert Beery and Mrs. Marvin Conrad and a citizenship lesson was given by Mrs. Robert Clark. Mrs. Dale Brandt reported on the state convention and Mrs. Arthur Bauermeister gave the devotions. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting by Mrs. Bauermeister and Mrs. Otto Fuhrman and prizes were won by Mrs. Glen Girod and Mrs. Arthur Koeneman. surprise Party in HONOR OF BIRTHDAY Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gage entertained with a surprise party in honor of their daughter Alice Kathryn's 21st birthday anniversary. The evening was spent with the playing of games and group singing. A buffet style lunch was served with a large birthday cake adding the finishing touch to the meal. ' Those attending the party were members of the Catholic Youth Group who included the Rev. Robert Jaeger, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gage, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gage and daughter Carole, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Gage, and Mrs. Anna Meyer. KIRKLAND LADIES CLUB PLANS FOR 4-H FAIR Final arrangements for the 4-H fair were made at the Thursday evening meeting of the members of the Kirkland Ladies club, which met at the Adams Central school. Miss Esther Brehm presented her prize-winning 4-H demonstra-i tion on a vegetable and relish dish I entitled “pretty as a bouquet.” A report was given by Mrs. Albert Beineke and Mrs. D. C. Shady on their trip to Purdue. Refreshments were served by. the hostesses for the meeting. Mrs. Dophus Shlickman, Mrs. Joe Zimmerman, Mrs. Ivan Heare, and Mrs. Roy Heller. The members of the Ladybugs will sponsor a bakesale at the Western Auto store, Saturday from 9 until 12 o’clock. A meeting of the V.F.W. will be held at 8 o'clock. Tonight, the Gals and 'Pals square Dance club members will meet at 8 o’clock, at the Decatur Youth and Community Center. A meeting of the Phythian Sisters will be held Monday at 7:30 o’clock at the K. of P. hall. Needle Club will follow. A pinic and dance for the members of the Gals and Pals Square Dance club will be held at the Joe Geels bam Sunday at 5 o’clock. Meat, rolls, ice cream, coffee, and soft drings will be furnished and the members are asked to bring a covered dish and their own table service. Mrs. Velma Culeman, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Reddoch of Hereford. Texas, Mrs. June Williams and son Gary of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Ethel York of Pampa, Texas, were Tuesday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Brodbeck of Bobo. Charles A. Foreman of Preble, Ernest Tumbleson, of Decatur, and D. H. Tumbleson of Fort Wayne, left recently for a vacation in Canada. Mrs. Gerald Eady, a former Decatur resident, is recuperating after major surgury recently. She is in the Fairview hospital in LaPorte. Mrs. Charles W. Johnson, of east of Mdnmouth, who is celebrating her 82nd birthday anniversary today, is improving after a fall in her home Tuesday. Miss Joyce Haggard of Decatur, attended a prenupial miscellaneaus shower held in Portland recently for her brother Bob’s fiance Miss Judith Ann Burk. Miss Caroline Alger At Summer Session BOULDER, Colo. — Miss Caroline Alger, 328 N. sth St., has been attending the 62nd annual summer ( session at the University of Colo- , rado for the past five weeks. Enrollment at this year’s University of Colorado summer session is 5,327. This makes it the largest summer school in the West and one of the largest summer schools in the country.
