Truck-Auto Crash Is Fatal To Man VERSAILLES, Ind. (UP)-James | Schneider, 24, Napoleon, died today from injuries sustained Monday when his automobile and a truck collided near Napoleon on Ind. 229. — Iraqi Ambassador Attends UN Meet Overlooks Threats On Life To Attend UNITED NATIONS <UPI> — Abdul Majid Abbass, pre-revolu-tionary royalist ambassador of Iraq, who had been under police , guard following reports his life had been threatened, returned to the United Nations Security Council today. Abbass was absent Monday and Iraq's seat was vacant. His rival, Hashim Jawad, appointed U. N. representative by Baghdad’s putsch government, made no attempt to take it over. It was the first time a Security Council seat had been vacant since Russia boycotted the council in 1950, protesting its refusal to seat Red China. Abbass sent word Monday that he would not attend the council meeting because he was ill at his hotel. When he arrived shortly before today’s meeting, he insisted he was actually ill Monday. He said he “had heard” about a threat against his life but did not how the threat came. He had no bodyguard, he said, and it was up take it seriously. He would not say to U. N. security offices to take what steps might be necessary. A police guard has been posted at his hotel by New York City authorities. Asked if he were not afraid to take his seat with a threat hanging over him, Abbass told a newsman: “I cannot abdicate my dtuy, my friend.” Major Leaaue Leader I Player & Club G. AB R. H. Pct. Handley Scored By Candidate For Judge Says Office Used As Stepping Stone SULLIVAN, Ind. (UPI) — A democratic nominee for Appellate Court Judge Monday night criticized Governor Handley for using his office as “stepping stones” to the U. Senate. Walter M. Myers Jr., Indianapolis attorney. charged that Handley heads a Republican party linked with the highway scandals of his GOP predecessor, ex-Gov. George N. Craig. Handley is the Republican candidate for the Senate seat to be vacated by William E. Jenner. * Myers said Handley “used his office as governor to divide the Republican party and mold the constitution of this state into a power machine.” Myers said the “Handley Republican party is not to be confused with the Lincoln Republican Party.” “The Handley Republican party has only three members. They are, in the order of importance, Harold Handley, GOP state chairman Robert Matthews, and ‘Wild Bill’ Jenner. Everyone else in the Handley Party is there because he is employed by the state or because there is the smell of favoritism in the air.” Myers quoted several prominent Republicans, including Sen. Homer E. Capehart and \Rep. E. Ross Adair, in their remarks criticizing Handley, Jenner and Matthews.
